We stayed here for 15 nights in October and had a great time overall. The facilities are basic, just a tap near the entrance and a basic CCEP on the other side of the field but this is reflected in the price. The site is located on the highest ground for miles around and the views are outstanding, there is a clear view for several miles across the Weald to the north and over Rye Harbour nature reserve and the English Channel to the south. There is a Vodaphone transmitter mast sharing the hilltop but apart from a faint whirring of fans in the immediate vicinity of it's compound it did not cause us any problems.
There are lots of footpaths in the immediate vicinity, including a well maintained and marked path into Rye, a walk of about a mile, otherwise there is a bus stop at the end of the lane with an hourly service in either direction.
There are two pubs within half a mile, and plenty more in Rye, some dating from medieval times and associated with tales of smugglers.
TV reception seemed fine, we were able to get several channels with a small aerial on the side of the van, but being on a hilltop that was perhaps to be expected.
We found so much of interest in the area that we will more than likely return, and will not hesitate to stay again on this CL.
Good and bad
Arrived on site and after only driving a few metres onto the field we were met by a very rude angry man who informed us that we were only permitted to drive around the outside of the 8 acre field as the middle is being used to grow hay, at no point was we told this when we booked the site over the telephone so wasn't sure why the man was so angry! It seems that the owners haven't read the Caravan Club rules or the notice on their gate as in total there was 10 caravans on site over the weekend, I did bring this up with the lady who came to collect the money but she err and umm and said oh well its a big enough field you aren't all on top of each other, this wasn't the case as there were 10 caravans is was very crowded.
Its a shame that the owners are so greedy that they break the rules as it is a nice site but their description needs to be updated of the size of the field and the cost per night is £6.00. The field is next to a farm so if the weather is warm the manure heap does smell so try not to pitch up close to this area.
