Don’t stay on a Sunday

Our 2nd stay at this site. The first time In April 2018 was great and Hutton le Hole is very nice. However we weren’t told that we would be woken at 6.30am by the cars arriving to set up for the car boot sale, we also weren’t told that the two unisex toilets on the site would be used by the general public attending the car boot and as a consequence the cleanliness was greatly compromised, I hate to think how many germs were on the sodden towelling hand towel in the toilets, we weren’t told that all the cars attending and leaving the car boot would be driving through the site to exit. We weren’t told until we were leaving that we had accrued a charge for a second vehicle my daughter visited one night, despite deliberately placing the caravan and not putting up an awning so we could fit the second vehicle a mini on our £22.00 per night C/L pitch. HAD THE OWNER TOLD US AT THE TIME we would have parked it at the pub and paid them the £3.00 charge. But instead he demanded money from us in a most unpleasant manner as we were leaving and driving out. I have checked his site page and can’t find any information that states what I can and can’t have on the pitch. Maybe he charges a second fee for Motorhomes with a little tow car. Suggest the owner be a little more clear and provide information about car boot and any additional rules they choose to impose when people book and on arrival. Wouldn’t stay here again. The area is lovely and the pub in Hutton le Hole has fantastic food. Would stay at the Caravan and Motorhome club site in Rosedale Abbey. It looked beautiful and at least there is a local shop there unlike the burnt out wreck of a shop in Hutton le Hole.

Comment from the Club:

Further to your review the CL owner has been in touch to review your concerns.

With immediate effect they are cancelling all their car boot fairs in their field for 2019.

The cost of a pitch is for a unit and a car plus two Adults. As such a Motorhome towing a car would not incur additional fees. If the CL owners had been aware that you had been planning on having your Daughters car parked on the pitch they would have advised you of the cost and did advise your Daughter of the charge.

With regards to the gift shop at Hutton-le-Hole, the CL Owners have advised that unfortunately there was a fire in the flat above the shop that nearly took the life of a person and caused the death of a much loved family pet and a local family who ran the gift shop have lost their livelihood. Our thoughts are with the families who lived and worked here.

One of our favourite CL's

We absolutely love staying here, a beautiful well laid out and cared for site. Excellent clean facilities, friendly owner and even a boot sale thrown in on Sunday morning. Hutton-Le-Hole is a picture perfect village, one of the best on the North York Moors. There are cafe's, ice cream shops, craft shops, a museum and a super pub. There are walks in all directions from the site, we were given leaflets of all the local walks. Lastingham is a must, the church is so interesting and the pub excellent, the food was superb... No phone signal or 4G but a good excuse to pop into The Crown for a swift half and to use their free wifi. Looking forward to another visit before too long....

Perfect in every way

We already enjoyed visiting this area of Yorkshire and Hutton le Hole is a great little village to locate a CL. Can’t fault the site, clean, hot shower, level pitches, hard standing and grassy areas. Walk to the pub in the village or take a nice 1/2 hour stroll to Lastingham and visit the local pub there and the extremely old church which is very interesting. We enjoyed staying in the village, locals are friendly, good dog walking, 2 shops selling lovely ice cream, cakes and coffee. Tea rooms x 3, chocolate shop, craft shop and a lovely wool shop with local wools for felting or knitting. Short drives will see you in Helmsley, Ampleforth or Pickering if you want a bit more to see or do. There is a car boot fair in the village too, try and time your visit for that if you can get booked in. We look forward to returning.

Perfect

We already have a very good acquaintance with Hutton le Hole and the surrounding area, having a daughter, son-in-law and two grandkids about 4 miles away. We had seen this wonderful little site and decided that, as soon as we were the owners of a Campervan, we would visit, especially if we were required to carry out "kid sitting" in Yorkshire !!. We visited between 11 and 14 May and we were not disappointed with our choice!! We can only reiterate what all the other Reviewers have said before. The owners are really helpful, friendly and full of local knowledge. The facilities are spotless and secure with keys for entry issued on arrival. As stated, the site is Adults Only and this applies also to visitors. We found this to be no problem at all and this added to the site's tranquility. The Crown Pub just up the road is lovely with excellent food and good well kept real ale. Access to the Chocolate Factory MAY just be a little TOO close for comfort if, like me, you are a Chocoholic!! I find it quite impossible not to spend far too much!! The Forge Tea Room takes you back to those days of REAL quality ENGLISH fare and, as a resident of the site, Louise has arranged a 10% discount.  The (mushroom) Soup and Sandwiches were delicious!!  If you are as familiar with an area as we are here, it is easy to take a more leisurely attitude about visiting the attractions on offer. However, as the weather was not really lending itself to long walks on the Bank Holiday, we met up with the family and took in our first visit to the Ryedale Folk Museum. Wonderful and a real gem with surprises round every corner!! Not much more to add, really, but I think the owners MAY be pleased if I warned all of you arriving at the gate to make sure that you hook them BOTH back before you drive through. I can thoroughly recommend Chas Atkinsons Tyres in Helmsley for excellent service!!!

First Class

We stayed here last weekend after our original booking in March was postponed due to the Beast from the East. It was well worth the wait! We received a very warm welcome from Louise who let us know where everything was and advised the best way of getting on to the pitch (the last one left). It's a very well kept site and the facilities were spotless. The surroundings are beautiful with the noise of sheep and not much else. We spent part of Saturday morning watching a squirrel gathering nuts for the winter. This is probably the most we have paid for a CL but it was worth every penny due to the facilities and the location is exceptional. My parents (who were staying elsewhere in the village) have booked to return to this CL in a couple of weeks. We are currently checking our diaries to fit in our own return visit.

Great CL in a beautiful village

Very well kept site in the middle of a beautiful village. Pitches are well spaced and all on hard standing. Quiet and peaceful. Shower & toilet facilities are immaculate (& warm in winter!). Great welcome from the owners. Lots of walking direct from the site. Local pub The Crown (200 yards) is recommended - dog friendly with an open fire and great food . Can see why people keep returning to this site. Close to Pickering, Whitby and the North Yorks Moors villages for exploring. Ryedale Folk Museum and Craft Workshops are situated in the village. We stayed at New Year 2018 and were lucky enough to be snowed in! The village is beautiful in the snow and just like being in a Christmas card!

Beautiful quiet site with friendly owners

Spent a few days here and the site is in tip top condition. Small Toilet/Shower Block with waste disposal, fresh water and electric hook up available. TV Reception good, but no wifi or phone signal available, so required to go to the pub (100 meters away) on a daily basis to check mails and make calls, no bad thing. Pub serves very large portions and food quality was good, dogs are more than welcome inside when eating. Access to site is good and owners are very friendly. Dog walking is available about 40 yards from site. Many long walks available from the site onto the moors. Thirsk, Whitby, Scarborough and York all within one hour drive. Will definitely return to this site.

A lovely little site.

Just returned from this lovely site after a few days stay. Actually booked it because I was taking part in a running event based in the village but I would unreservedly recommend it for a relaxing and welcome break just because of what it is. Impeccably well kept, very conveniently situated for immediate and more distant amenities and plenty of space for each unit . The owners provide a friendly and informative welcome and are happy to help. They're interested but not intrusive and very nice people to talk to. TV reception is fine but you need to go to the pub for phone reception and free WIFI. A hard choice!! Some vital electrical work needed to be done when we were there. That's life and these things happen. Didn't affect us but by way of apology we found a bottle of Prosecco at our van door when we returned from the pub. A lovely touch. Thank you. Access from either side of the village is very easy. We came in from the the A170 to the South but returned North via Castleton to the Whitby/Teeside road, after speaking to the owner. This was a straightforward route. We tow a long van. I like CLs. This is now in my favourites list.

Outstanding CL Site

We have just stayed at this lovely site. Easy access off the 'main' road. Lovely greeting from Will with lots of useful local and site specific information. All 5 pitches are hardstanding and level and there is a decent space between them. The nearest pub and cafe (choice of a few) is only a minutes walk away and the village is absolutely beautiful. We walked the 2 miles over to Lastingham to the Blacksmith's Arms - a 'proper' Yorkshire pub with great real ales, fabulously entertaining and friendly locals, a great landlord and top quality food. We even met our site owners, Will and Louise in the pub, and again, they gave us some great advice and were so friendly. The toilets are spotless and the (free) hot shower is just right. There is no phone or internet access, which suited us down to the ground.... and the site is Adults only. We stayed for 3 peaceful nights at the site and this was our first ever caravan experience. I think it will be a while before we find another one that's as good. We'll definitely return.
