We have just returned from staying on this site (April 2014).This site would benefit from instructions in the site book to only follow the route given. We approached from the opposite direction and it was not a good route for a caravan.
The site has a lovely view over the reservoir but this is spoilt by the level of noise from the road. It is not a level site but most caravanners have levelling blocks with them and there were some there. The owners were very welcoming and most helpful. Many attractions close by - lots to do.
Don't try approaching this CL from the immediate South direction unless you like very small lanes!( good access from Northerly side) A lovely outlook over the Reservoir, and a brilliant area for exploring NT properties etc. Not an immaculate site, and a gentle slope to 3 of the 5 pitches, but not too steep for our little caravan. Single track lane outside a bit of a race track at commuter times, but quiet overnight.Great site for birdwatching, local reserve nearby.
This was adifficult site to find [Though we arrived in the middle of a storm] we found the farm but couldn't find the site as it was just over a quarter mile from the farm. The site is really sloping but the owner had left a variety of different size chunks of wood to help people to level up [very thoughtful] The owner was a real nice lady who asked if there was anything we needed to make our stay better, just ask, unfortunately she couldn't make the sun shine as that was all that was missing. Need to be fully self contained as minimal facilities electric, water and WC empty only, but lovely views and peaceful except for odd car on the road that passed the field
We stayed here September 2011 and received a warm welcome but this is sadly my least favourite CL.
We picked it partly because the description said it had views, which is something we always look for but we couldn’t see any from the site unless we stood up high next to the hedge. Most of the site was steeply sloping which made pitching quite a challenge. The grass was rough and quite long and on the other side of the hedge was a very busy lane which was used as a cut through by local traffic making quite noisy.
However, the surrounding area is great if you are a NT member as there are numerous sites just on the doorstep, including Churchill’s Chartwell. . The countryside is gentle hills of woods and fields. There is a lovely walk to the local reservoir through corn fields and woods directly from the site and flocks of geese perform spectacular flyovers each evening.
If you are not too fussy about the CL, this is a very interesting area to visit.
