So peaceful!

Such a great find. Very welcoming owners and a wonderful site for touring the area. Site is slightly sloping but owners have left a lot of levelling blocks that you can use if necessary. Far reaching views from the site which is closely mown. All kept neat and tidy with useful information room. Would definitely return when in the area again. Thank you Jo, Tom, Holly and Charlie.

Lovely peaceful site

We stayed here for a couple of nights Summer 2024 to walk Lathkill Dale. Couldn't have wished for anywhere better. You need your own toilet and shower but there are disposal facilities and electric. Good TV reception. Our dog was made very welcome by Jo and her daughter. Small and very very friendly. We loved it. A mile to the Bull's head for nice food.

Hospitality at its best

We visited the site in the summer of 2024 (when July felt like April) but whatever the weather threw at us Jo and Tom's hospitality more than compensated for this! We picked this campsite after reading the earlier reviews and they were right; the site is lovely, sheltered from the wind with lovely views, it is kept spotless with easy access to the facilities including the information hut. However, the way Jo and Tom take you in is just lovely, sharing their life experiences and taking a genuine interest in that of others. It doesn't come better than that!

Hightown farm cl

What a great cl in the beautiful surroundings of the Peak District, we were made very welcome on arrival by Jo. It is a good base to access a number places of interest and plenty of trails and walks nearby to explore the area. Highly recommended and we will return. Thanks to Tom and Jo

Wonderful Site

Such a lovely site. Extremely well kept. Mr and Mrs Scoggins were very friendly, helpful and caring. Will definitely return thank you for making our stay so nice. Pity about the weather but it wouldn't be England if you dont get wet.

A beautiful well kept site

A beautiful site on the farm. Although the rain beat us in the end it was a lovely location and we will return next year, Little extras like the book swap and help yourself herbs . Jo and Tom were great hosts. Highly reccomend.

Fabulous and Friendly

After we had to put our main holiday on hold my husband booked this CL on the spur of the moment just to get away for a few days, and what a fabulous choice he made. When we arrived Tom was just on his way to do the school run, but he stopped long enough to advise us on the most suitable pitch for us - the area in the corner near the 5 bar gate - he also explained where everything was, then left us to it. Later that afternoon, Jo came and welcomed us and told us we could move on to the hardstanding the next day if we wished (it was occupied on our arrival). We chose to stay where we were as we got the sun in the morning and into the evening. A walk to the little information hut was worth it. As we love to cycle there were 4 pamphlets outlining cycling loops in and around the immediate area. We cycled one each from the Bakewell and Ashbourne pamphlets, and an amalgamation of another two from the Bakewell pamplet. We were set to cycle another on our last full day there, but as the weather wasn't that good, we decided to stay local and make up our own route - taking in the Magpie Mine - a disused lead mine - and the villages of Over Haddon, Youlgreave and Middleton by Youlgreave. The annual Well-Dressing festival started on the Saturday in Over Haddon, and we arrived just in time to catch the tail end of the blessing of the main well, before joining the small congregation and walking up to the junior well for its blessing. Tea and cake followed in the village hall. Thank goodness we have ebikes - the pedal assist was well and truly used for all our rides - and in particular the Chatsworth loop - which had some stonking hills! The hut was also well stocked with other pamphlets - but do check as some were out of date - but you'd get a general idea. The menu for the local pub, the excellent Bull's Head, was out of date too. Unfortunately we forgot to pick up some menus to replace them. The site itself is very well cared for, and the grass is kept nice and short. It was lovely sitting out and watching/listening to all the bird life around us. There is slight noise from the road during the day, but come night time it is extremely quiet (although the RAF had other ideas one night). The pretty village of Monyash is exactly one mile downhill from the CL so within easy cycling/walking distance for the pub! Most of the farms in the area seem to be cattle/sheep, and on our last day we just missed a calf being born on a neighbouring farm. We stopped in the hope we would see the calf try to stand up, but mum had other ideas and as she obviously didn't like us being there, we just left her to it. All in all we highly recommend this lovely site, and with the Tissington, Monsal and High Peaks Trails nearby - it's a must for cyclists.

An All Round Good Choice

We loved it! There is a warm, welcoming feel to this CL, and owners Jo and Tom make every effort to ensure your stay is stress-free - Tom even tractored us into position, saving our blushes when our car struggled. The site is beautifully maintained, with views across the countryside and an amazing amount of birdsong. If you love ice cream, do try the local dairy farms, where you can feed goats, watch cows being milked and even have their little calves suck your fingers. Donkeys and pigs are ready for a fuss too. There are so many scenic routes within striking distance for those who like to drive, cycle or walk, with plenty of choice when you need some food or drink. Just don't come here whilst on a diet!

A QUIET SITE IN RURAL PEAK DISTRICT

We were greeted by Jo who from the start made us feel most welcome. The site does have a slope but the owners have provided a large selection of levelling blocks. The walk to the Tissington Trail via the footpath to Moscar Farm then back along the unmade road Huttmoor Butts to Monyash and back to the farm is a 5 mile circular route with a steady climb from Monyash to the site. A visit to Magpie Mine is interesting as is a circular walk around Lathkill Dale but you will need suitable walking footware. The Monsal Trail is in easy reach with plenty of parking at Millers Dale. TV signal is good and in fact there are no negative things I can think to say about the site although the access track is a wee bit bumpy but it is an access to a farm and as such is far smoother than many we have encountered. It is one we will visit again its only a pity that it closes for the winter.

Peace and quiet in fabulous surroundings.

We spent a very pleasant ten nights here in August. The site is perfect if you want to just relax in peace and quiet surrounded by fabulous views. The site owners are lovely and so helpful and although the pitches are slightly sloping there is a crate of levelling blocks supplied for your use. We will definitely be returning.
