Ease of arrival/welcome

A Bit Disappointing

Site was not easy to find as there is no CL sign and the entrance appears to be to an industrial unit. There was less than an acre useable for vans - there is a huge bank of nettles and scrub, behind which is an exercise area for horses and judging by where the electric points are placed and how tall the nettles are, I would say that 2 acres have not been available for caravans for quite a long time. There are horses crossing the site morning and evening, so that rules out another large section. The owners' dogs, although friendly, were allowed onto the site where they left daily "deposits" which was most unwelcome. The owners were away during our visit and their dogs barked throughout the night, although obviously we have no idea if this happens when they are home. We could not find anyone around during our stay and found it impossible to pay for the site, so despite them requesting cash, we had to post a cheque when we got home. The site is in a great location for exploring the Broads and the coast, but there are a lot of early morning comings and goings from the adjacent industrial unit and people connected with the horses. All in all, we had a good holiday, but would not return to this site, sadly.

Comment from CL Owner:

I would like to thank this member for feedback and express my regret that the site did not meet our usual high standards.  It is continually being upgraded and over the winter months 2013/14 we made several changes but one or two things were not quite finished at the time of the visit.

To address the issues raised:

The access has been improved and there is now a large splay off the road to a double five-bar gate. There is a CL sign clearly in view from both directions.

Possibly the exact measurement of the site needs to be recalculated.  For ease, a few years ago the electric points were installed around a smaller area; however the sense of space remains.

We do have horses and they cross the site twice a day - many members enjoy this.

On our return, there were no 'deposits' to be found and this is certainly not considered acceptable, although we do welcome dogs. Our dogs are indeed friendly and they were in the house for all but one of the nights so would not be heard on the CL site at night, although it is easy to confuse dogs barking with foxes or deer.

The person responsible for the site in our absence tried many times to visit your van in an attempt to address your concerns and left a note with her number - it is often difficult to coincide with members being on site.

The nettles and long grass is good for conservation and form a boundary to the area used by the vans, which is level, well-drained and mown regularly.

We take all comments seriously and following this review, we have decided to either close the site when we are away or have a warden present.  We are currently building a new loo and shower, which will be inspected later this month for inclusion in the next Sites Directory and Handbook. It is hoped that future members will enjoy these upgraded facilities along with the many lovely footpaths, easy access to the beach and Broads, and the use of the tennis court in a congenial rural setting.
