A lovely place to stay

A spur of the moment trip out to test out the van meant an evening phone call to the site half expecting us to be turned away. The owner couldn't have been more welcoming and hospitable and half an hour later we were set up in the peaceful surroundings. We can echo the many comments from the previous reviews of how immaculate the facilities are (best I've seen for a while). We can see ourselves returning again and again. Thanks for having us!

Lovely site and hosts

We stayed here for two nights 14th/15th June and recommend it highly. A lovely peaceful site with plenty of space, with two hosts, Tom and Mark who were so friendly and very helpful The site does not have electricity but a shower and washroom are situated by the bungalow. they are kept spotlessly clean. A short drive to the Park & Ride for visiting Durham city, Crook Hall & Gardens (NT) and the Botanical Gardens or a short drive to Beamish. Thank you again for a great stay to Tom, Mark, Marigold & Petunia

A truly delightful site!

We have just spent the most peaceful night at Grove Farm, it’s off the main road along a country lane and situated in the delightful village of Hett. The owners Tom and Mark could not be more welcoming to their lovely site which they clearly pride themselves on. The facilities are pristine with a lovely warm and spacious shower and some very nice hand wash in the toilet! There are some some lovely walks nearby and the view from the site is rolling fields and countryside. If you want a site that gets you back to nature this is the one. The added bonus of the two adorable donkeys (Petunia and Marigold) in the paddock makes for a truly magnificent stay. We will definitely be back! Please note there is no electric and this is clearly stated on the website and the owners always advise this on booking, I noted someone gave one star less for this which I can’t understand as it is very clear they are a site that does not provide electric!

What a nice little site

Lovely quiet site, added bonus of immaculate toilet and shower on site. The owners were very friendly and helpful. All in all a nice spot for a night or 2, but we wouldn't be able to stay longer as no electric hook up.

A gem of a site!

Grove Farm is a wonderful little CL. We stayed for a night at the beginning of May en route to Northumberland and Scotland, and Tom and Mark made us feel so welcome. The shower and toilet were absolutely spotless and we loved meeting the donkeys, Marigold and Petunia! Hett is a lovely, peaceful village with plenty of dog walks and amazing views. We'll definitely be coming back. Thank you, Tom, Mark and the girls! (Lovely to meet Freddie the schnauzer, too!) Emma, Duncan and Auburn

Lovely CL, friendly, informative and welcoming owners

What a lovely, peaceful stop over on our way up to Scotland. Mark and Tom made us very welcome and were very informative and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. The facilities (shower room and toilet) were spotless and much appreciated. And we loved the Donkeys. Recommend the coach and horses pub (15 mins walk) nearby - great roast most evenings (2 for £15), unfortunately not dog friendly, but food made up for it. Thank you once again Mark and Tom, will definitely be back. Kind regards Delphine and Peter.

Excellent CL - a hidden gem.

We stayed here after a long drive from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 we used the CL as a stopover as we were travelling further down South. It is close to all the main roads travelling South and North so excellent for stopovers and longer stays to tour this beautiful area of the UK. It is perfect base to visit the beautiful City of Durham, North Yorkshire and further afield to Barnard Castle etc. The sites hosts Tom and Mark were very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble and were very friendly. The CL’s stars were the gorgeous two donkeys. They were in a paddock adjacent to the field if you couldn’t see them you could hear them in a reassuring way as great addition to a CL. Very dog friendly. The toilet facilities we perfect, absolutely spotless. Please don’t overlook this CL as it is a hidden gem. We definitely recommend this very peaceful site and definitely will be back. Thank you Tom & Mark for your hospitality. Debra, Grant & Roxy.

Peaceful Site with friendly Donkeys.

Just come back from a 6 night stay at Grove Farm. Tom and Mark were there to meet us on arrival and showed us the field. It was huge and you could pitch up anywhere you wanted. We set up behind the tree to give us some shade from the afternoon sun. This was 6 ft from Marigold and Petunia’s field and where else could you wake up, open the blinds and see a couple of donkeys looking in the van window. The shower and toilet were immaculate and a fresh hand towel in the toilet every day. Very quiet and peaceful with the odd car or tractor going down the lane but hardly any traffic in the evening. Lots of walking in the area if you have a dog and only about 7 miles from Durham. We will definitely return.

A peaceful haven....

We had considered giving only one star; solely to ensure that there would be spaces free when we returned. But, being honest campers, that would have been most unfair to Tom and Mark who are the perfect hosts. Nothing seems too much trouble, help and advice is always available with an initial greeting on arrival that we have never known bettered. We can’t add much to what other reviewers have written about the facilities, only to confirm that the shower and toilet (with hand basin) are indeed kept in immaculate condition. Of course, there are no electric hook-ups which to us is a bonus; made even better by no generators being allowed, so don’t forget your solar panel if you’re staying for a while! The perfectly sound reason for the ban on generators is that they upset the two resident rescued donkeys (‘The Girls’) who are at least as charming and friendly as Tom and Mark. If you want to feed them, that’s fine, but please check first what is allowed as they are on a special diet. The only problem is that you may get so attached to them you won’t want to leave the site. Incidentally, our review isn’t based on the usual one or two nights stay; we had booked for 14 nights and finally stayed for 17, only leaving because we absolutely had to go home! The ground generally slopes but we found levelling to be quite straightforward and encountered no difficulties during our stay. A fully-fledged thunderstorm with torrential rain whilst at Grove Farm showed that the ground drains very quickly when necessary (well, it is Britain!). All-in-all a remarkable CL. Some may call it ‘basic’ through the lack of EHUs but that really can’t be applicable when considering the pristine facilities together with the welcoming and helpful attitudes of Tom and Mark (not forgetting ‘The Girls’). Would we go there again? Well, we are returning this year and the wait is too long! Oh, just one thing we forgot ... “Thank you” to Tom and Mark.

Lovely welcome, lovely site

Mark and Tom are 5 star CL owners, enthusiastic and chatty without being overwhelming. They found us the perfect pitch overlooking the hay meadow. The facilities are immaculate, the local walking is excellent and the donkeys are delightful. We were sorry we only had one night to stay but would love to go back.
