A very well maintained CL

A very well maintained and run site, with extensive facilities for a CL. The new toilet and washroom is excellent and sparkling clean, and although I found the chemical toilet disposal point a little awkward to use, it, too, was clean and sparkling. The hosts were very helpful and the location is great but the road running past the site is busy for a lot of the day - we noticed this as we live in a normally quiet rural environment. The pub across the road, the Anchor, is certainly very convenient but it is a chain and the menu is a little unexciting. Would I come back here again though? Certainly.

Fabulous

I booked that morning and was politely welcomed by Isabelle who showed me around. The area for the caravan club is very spacious. Al popped by later to check I was all set up okay (being a woman on my own with an awning!) which I thought was a nice touch. The facilities are clean, with adequate lighting. The toilet block and waste have been completed to a high standard. There is a pub over the road, which serves home cooked food. It was about 5 miles to West Wittering, a great beach. Al is a cheerful chap, who potters around doing odd jobs and cuts the grass. He is friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend and definitely return. Thank you for the wonderful few days.

What a great CL!

Isabelle welcomed us on arrival and Al maintained an experienced and watchful eye as we wrestled with the awning. This is Caravanning with ease. Only The Savoy Hotel offers marginally better loo facilities. Convenient to drive or 'Bus it' into Chichester and The South Downs or nip down the road into Selsey for local shopping, Pubs ('The Seal' is best) and the beach. Petrol station shop is two minutes walk for the essentials; across the road is The Anchor Inn serving good beer (try and visit when they are not busy for good service!) This CL deserves your support lots of great work done in a short space of time and more on the way. Will be back!

A Very Spacious CL

Fieldgate is a very wide, spacious site which extends some way back from the road, so all the pitches give you a lot of space. We were given a very warm welcome by Isabelle on our arrival, and given a choice of pitches bordering a rural public footpath and a field at the bottom. This area slopes down a bit, but most of the site is flat with several hard-standings. The site is very much work in progress, and the owners have plans to provide showers and WC's, although at present there is only a single WC, charmingly decorated with little messages and knick-knacks, in a brick-built outhouse - which is more than most CLs provide. There is the usual single drinking water supply, but the chemical waste disposal is under a drain cover in the garden by the house; not very easy to use, and rather smelly and unhygienic. The charge of £17 per night is quite high, and more than many other better-equipped CLs. The location just to the south of Chichester is very good, thoiugh. We were there for the Festival of Speed, which was close enough to be able to stomach the long queues into the Goodwood car parks. Chichester is a fine city to visit too, with plenty of character and a wonderful cathedral. Within 10-15 minutes there is also Chichester Gate, a big retail park with a Nandos, Cineworld, a J D Wetherspoons (for your WiFi needs), etc., if that floats your boat. The beaches, from Bognor to the Witterings are all shingle, but with the exception of West Wittering (car park £4.50 all day), quite peaceful and uncrowded. Finally, for a great experience, don't miss the exceptional Tangmere Aviation Museum, a truly wonderful display of a former WW2 fighter station.

Very nice site, great walks across the fields, ate in the pub opposite one night which was very good.  Lots of places to visit. Will be back.

First CL visit - great choice

Our first time at a CL, and we were very pleased. Very friendly owners, easy access, great location (10 mins each to Wittering beaches and Chichester city). Garage with convenience store just 300m from the site. CC members area at rear of site, away from the road (the site takes a further 6 vans non-CL). Large size pitches and great for dogs. The only negative was nothing to do with the site - the Grey Stag pub opposite was not good (decided not to eat there having seen the burnt dessert that came to the adjacent table) and the car park was always pretty much empty - not a good sign. Never mind, just travel a couple of miles to the Crab & Lobster for really lovely (albeit expensive) food.

a lovely CL

Booked this CL as we like to visit East Wittering (and eat in The Boulevard Restaurant there! excellent breakfasts!!) which is only 5 miles away from the CL. Very easy to find and we were welcomed on our arrival by the owner using our name which was nice, she also bought homemade flapjack around on Saturday morning which my children loved!! Our pitch was nice and flat and we had a lovely view over the fields. Chichester Golf Club is a few minutes from the CL they have a Adventure Golf course we had a great time. There is plenty to do in the area can't wait to return!

Lovely site.

Very clean, tidy, pretty site with lovely views over the fields. Extremely pleasant and helpful owners. Road can be busy at times but we didn't find it a problem. Site is well situated for visiting Chichester and the coast.

Near perfect CL

We enjoyed the May Day Bank Holiday here despite indifferent weather and a strong breeze! As reported the Owners are very welcoming and helpful and are obviously putting a lot of effort into improving the site facilities both for the CL and the small commercial site attached. Site is quite close to the busy road from Chichester to Selsey but the traffic noise was not intrusive. The view across open fields at the back is pleasant enough. As also reported the dog walk is easily accessed and leads in one direction, and in under 5 min walk, to the local garage which has a well stocked (including milk, bread, papers and alcohol) shop open 24 hours. The Anchor pub has been reopened as the Grey Stag - very nicely done out and friendly but a bit pricey. We preferred the Seal in Selsey where we had an excellent and reasonably priced Sunday lunch. We will be back!
