A short drive from the A30 and easy access to Dartmoor and beyond

We've just spent Easter bank holiday weekend at this CL and overall were very happy with our stay. It's well located to explore Dartmoor which is what we wanted, it has the lovely fruitful village of Bovey Tracey nearby and yet far enough away. We arrived in the dark on the Thursday evening and the stars were incredible so if you want to see stars, this is a lovely spot! Disadvantages of arriving in the dark however are the slope that the pitches are on which meant that we had to sort out levelling out properly the next day as the side of our pitch (pitch 1) was quite spongy, in the grass, wet and the gravel had formed it's own hole, which meant that the levelling (on the wrong side of the wheel lock!) was hard to do in the dark with a torch. There were a few things to point out that would have been welcomed. An email after the final payment with additional arrival information would have been appreciated with all details of the site (I sent an email the day before our visit asking if there were any driving/arrival instructions etc but it wasn't picked up until the morning after we arrived) for example where the chemical waste disposal was as we didn't see this for the first two days! It's well hidden (which is also fine!) but the sign is very small on the gate and you have to go looking for it and maybe some links to recommended places nearby. Also a mop for the shower would have been great. When you arrive, the drive splits into two, caravans are supposed to take the left side (full of pot holes) but can fit down the right (but watch out for the well). The utility area and shower room are useful(though washing machine and dryer are coin metered). The shower is large and warm with a towel radiator. The light did go out on me when I was in there but a little arm waving brought it back again. Sink for washing up was useful. Small list of suggested and useful places on the walls. Excellent dog walking field, fully enclosed, our demented spaniel found the tiny stream that runs by the hedge so beware the water if you don't want a wet dog! The field runs parallel to the pitches so no distance to walk with the dogs. Recommendation from us, try The Claycutters Arms for your Sunday roast. The food arrived within minutes, was incredible and very tasty. Dogs also welcome.

Peaceful stop over with excellent facilities

Touring Dartmoor with 2 motorhomes in mid October. Unlike some other sites we visited the shower was fabulous and hot. No extra cost either. Devon sites do charge a premium and not all deserve it, particularly at the end of the season when everywhere is very wet & muddy. We only stayed 1 night but would have been happy staying longer. There is a huge dog field behind the pitches and well organised recycling facilities. The pitches are large with good hard standing and wide grass areas between. It was also simple to find the site without having to negotiate very narrow Devon roads - another plus point when travelling together. Dominic greeted us on arrival. A perfect peaceful CL for adults.

Well placed with good facilities; but not worth the premium price

We enjoyed our stay at this CL; the toilets (one gents', two ladies') were good, although we weren't sure how often they were cleaned. The shower was very useful, warm and spacious. The utility room could have done with more local information and maps, and again we weren't sure that it was cleaned very frequently. The pitches are just big enough for caravans to be located off the driveway, but there's no space for a car unless you put it on the grass – no problem if the site owner doesn't mind. The site is about a mile from the Devon Expressway which is clearly audible a lot of the time, and the neighbouring farm or business had what sounded like earth-moving equipment operating until about 2030 on one night. There's no view of Dartmoor that we could find, although the local area is beautiful, of course. Bovey Tracey has much of interest, and we enjoyed an anniversary dinner in Creeping Thyme, an excellent meal. We liked Shaldon and Teignmouth as well, but Dawlish was just too much trouble to visit with the crowds that we found. We'll try again another time. Overall this is a useful CL, but there was no welcome from the owner and we felt that it was overpriced. No doubt the investment in the site needs a return, but the feeling of taking part in a business venture rather spoiled the feeling of staying in the countryside. We won't be back.

Rural touring base

Stayed at this site for two weeks and found it an ideal base for touring as it is on the edge of Dartmoor just off the A38 with easy access to the coast as well. The site is in a rural location so do not expect to walk to pubs, shops etc. As per previous comments there are no stunning views directly from the site , it is though in a lovely quiet countryside spot. Payment is made prior to arrival and you are not met on site having been allocated a pitch in pre- holiday booking. This was not an issue for us but some members may prefer a more personal welcome, an emergency contact number is given should it be required. The facilities of toilet, shower etc are adequate but we felt the whole site would be improved by a little more TLC bearing in mind the amount charged per night - such as a mop to wipe the shower out after use. Although cut at the end of our stay the grass around the pitches and site was quite long on arrival giving a slightly unkept look. There is some good local info provided in the washing machine/shower area.

Little Gem

Just visited East Dunley CL for a 2 night stay in our motorhome for the first time and it definitely won't be our last visit. Excellent facilities including laundry washer and dryer, spotless toilets and shower block. A dog walking area behind the designated tourer area. So quiet and peaceful the only noise we encountered was a pheasant outside our motorhome calling to us early doors. Really well positioned to visit the area. We went to Teignmouth Dawlish and Shaldon just wish we were staying longer. Would certainly recommend this Site for peace and quiet but with plenty of places to choose from to visit on the doorstep

Disappointed

Site is not as advertised in that there are no "stunning views over Dartmoor" and it wasn't peaceful. There were perhaps views a long time ago but the line of well established trees stops that. As for "peaceful", well, I don't count being woken by large mechanical diggers before 8am as being peaceful. This happened twice with construction work going on in the afternoons. The CL is now bisected by the access road to a wooden caravan/cabin that is in the process of being finished. Apparently a Transit, two large mechanical diggers and workmen don't make a building site in management eyes but they do in my ears. Apart from that the shower and laundry are great and the site is quiet when there's no building work. Strange that a CL can only take 5 vans but a towable cabin doesn't count as van. Consider this a 6 van site.

Top Class CL

Lovely peaceful cl with many birdsongs from the woods. Fascilities first class if you need them. Spaciously set out with hard standing and grass for each pitch. All kept mowed and tidy. Dartmoor on your doorstep. Dom informative and helpful. Would highly recommend it.

lovely peaceful site

We had a lovely stay at this site originally booked 5 night's but extended for 3 more. When we arrived there was a problem with the phone but Dom is always quick to reply with email. Unfortunately we did not meet Dom but a really lovely site and will be even better when the new hard stands are finished in the field as at the moment it is a bit like staying on a car park. We will definitely return to this lovely peaceful site. As already said even though the toilet and shower are in a tin shed they are really good.

Perfect CL Site

First time we’ve stayed on a CL site and we hit the jackpot with this perfect site! A lovely peaceful site that was easy to get to and very well placed for exploring Devon. Great little toilet and shower block which also included a washing up sink plus, for a small charge, a washing machine and tumble dryer. The shower was lovely and better than any I’ve used on a Club site! We extended our stay whilst we were there and would have happily extended it again! Definitely a site we’d go back to.

Lovely site. Happy to return in the future

We returned from a week at East Dunley a few days ago. What a lovely site. There was a warm welcome from Dom. Just remember they don't take cards to pay your balance. We'd forgotten, but fortunately just had enough cash! The facilities are good, the site sooo quiet, well looked after and providing you're within your plot they don't mind how you set up. If we're in the area again we will definitely return.
