Lovely Gem of a Site in Dorset

We booked Dorset Springs at fairly short notice as we decided to cancel our annual trip to France because of COVID restrictions. We initially booked four days as part of our tour of the South Coast and decided to stay another two nights as we loved it so much which was not a problem. On arrival we were greeted by Dory and everything was well explained to us. However we noticed that there was pitches available on the side of the beautiful lake with its gin clear water and being totally self sufficient with lithium batteries and solar power we asked if we could switch pitches which was not a problem. This proved to be very rewarding as sitting on the lakeside watching the wildlife proved to be very relaxing and interesting. Watching the Pike jump, the Grebes diving and teaching their young to the daily flocks of Canada and Grey Legged Geese taking up residence en route to their destinations. We even spotted a couple of Kingfishers and a Mink which we then learned from Steve were very aggressive and destructive to other forms of wildlife . However I suppose this is part of natures cycle. We found the site to be very central for all of the local towns, villages and attraction that we thoroughly enjoyed visiting. Lulworth Cove, Corfe Castle, Swanage, Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch and not to forget the local vineyards at English Oak near Poole and Langham's near Dorchester. I also found it convenient for getting out and about on my road bike although the main roads proved to be not very cycle friendly with the traffic volumes but once off the beaten track there were some lovely cycle routes that visited some beautiful villages. Cant wait to come back to this site just for the nature but also the ease of getting out and about.

Total happiness

Visited this wonderful site for a few days and almost immediately booked to return again. We liked the clear and informative booking and pre arrival information Ease of access to site and easy pitching Lovely site owners made to feel most welcome - special even ! A very special place which Steve and Dory should be justly proud. We absolutely feel in love with the lakes and all the wildlife. As we do not live too far away I am sure we will be returning to relax many more times in the coming years. Thank you Steve and Dory

Wonderfull Site

Prior email information on how to get there, how to enter the site was much appreciated. Great reception from Steve and Dory on arrival. Tranquil site, wonderful surroundings of fishing lakes with swans, geese and ducks. A daily visit from two chickens was quite novel but no fresh eggs were left. I really appreciated the width and length of the hardstanding pitch, caravan on gravel with roll out canopy over grass no requirement for groundsheet and car parked in front of van. Plenty of room between each pitch, we managed a cooking area, dinning area and sun bathing area without encroaching next door but still able to converse with neighbours. Within easy reach of Poole town and harbour. Due to Covid19 restrictions shower units were not available but this didn't spoil anything. Would highly recommend this CL site to all especially those who have not tasted a CL site previously, you will be pleasantly surprised. Des n Babs

A wet week

Had a good week here despite the wind and rain.Dory and Steve were good hosts. Lovely circular walks in the area using a ordernancy survey map. NT Kingston Lacey also has a walk around the outer of the estate. You can also download 12 different walks from K L which are very good. Two pubs Golden Fox 5 stars and the Red Lion pub grub both excellent. A great chill out week for us and our friends . This was our second visit and we only live 5 miles away.

Loved our stay, the owners are really friendly, helpful but not intrusive.

Beautiful campsite which we will return and explore the area. Just what was needed after a very odd year. Returned home refreshed.

Lovely and friendly stay

Very much enjoyed our stay here exploring Dorset. Steve was very friendly and helpful during our stay we didn't get the chance to meet dory. We was very happy with our pitch, close to water and chemical disposal with a lovely view of surrounding lakes. Found a lovely pub/restaurant just down the road (Coventry Arms) superb food and welcoming staff. Would definitely recommend this CL. Thank you for a pleasant stay Steve and dory.

Lovely location and helpful owners

A total of 2 CLs and one other larger site set around a fishing lake, so not as peaceful and quiet as you would expect. The main CL is on the road around the site and can be busy with traffic going past to the other larger site, this CL is also a bit tight on room, so the caravans and motorhomes can be close together. However, a lovely site and the owners are very helpful and informative, water and EHU available and looks like some shower rooms are being built and will be available soon.

Not a CL

So disappointed - we were meant to stay for a week and left after two nights !! The reasons are below *16 caravans on site so absolutely not a CL - when we asked why they said it was two CL’s which isn’t advertised *Double booked our pitch *Digger was dredging the pond at 7.30am Saturday and Sunday morning *View - was a skip and many caravans So sad as was so looking forward to this stay - first holiday since last year and much needed as a keyworker !

Little piece of “paradise”

What an amazing place and not like any other CL we have ever stayed at.We needed a little break and had set off without booking anywhere! After traveling for nearly 7 hrs on a journey that should have taken 3, we pulled into a lay-by for a cuppa and to try and find somewhere to stay for a couple of nights. With nearly every CL we tried being full, my husband found ‘Dorset Springs’ who miraculously had space with EHU!.We arrived to the friendliest welcome from Dory which after our long day was really refreshing. We later met Steve who was also just as friendly as his wife. The site was amazing and extremely well kept. All the facilities were easy to use and very clean. The views round the lakes were beautiful, the huge carp were very relaxing to watch although they were also being watched by the heron too! We learned that Steve and Dory have been making improvements to this wonderful place over the last 2 years but having met them we feel sure it is going to be very difficult to find a CL that is as friendly or as beautiful as “Dorset Springs”.
