Fantastic Find

Just spent a week at Donnewell Farm (21st June to 28th June). We were visiting the area as we wanted to watch the British Cycling Championships at Stockton. When we tried to book at the caravan club site in Stockton (White Water) we found out the site was closed due to extensive work being carried out to improve it. We looked at other options and decided we would use a CL. This was our first CL so we did not know what to expect or how to book it. I sent an email and got a reply back from Peter who provided all the info I needed to do to make the booking very easy for me. As it turned out it was White Water’s loss and our gain. What an excellent site. When we arrived we were greeted by Joyce and Peter and Maisie (their lovely dog). We were provided with a folder full of leaflets for places to visit. I asked Peter about shops in the local area. He told me there was a Sainsbury’s and next to them was George Bolams. A visit to George Bolams is a must (fruit and veg, fish and meat, bread and cakes all at reasonable prices and very tasty). Later on in the afternoon when we had settled in Peter came to see us and check that everything was alright. We had another chat and Peter informed us that we could walk into Sedgefield down a traffic free lane which starts at the entrance to Donnewell Farm. All the pitches are hard standings and they each have their own water tap and waste water drain. Peter has erected a satellite dish and each plot has a point to connect to it.(so just take your sky box and cable to connect up). You can also get free WIFI just ask Peter for the password. Joyce and Peter are very pleasant and helpful. If you like dogs then give Maisie a stroke she loves it. Thank you for making our stay on your site very pleasant we hope to return in the future. Julie and Tom.

Ease of arrival/welcome

23rd April - 01st May 2016

On the morning of our arrival we were warmly welcomed by Peter and Family. We were given a “Holiday Guide Folder" containing up to date brochures of what to do and see in the area. This was a brilliant idea, providing very useful facts about places we were visiting. We experienced Winter weather conditions, not uncommon for this time of year, further convincing us that the choice of a site with hard standing and ease of access was sound. Thank you Peter for your local knowledge and advice about the roadworks during the weeks prior to our stay. We will return to this site. Linda & Patrick .................................... Some Helpful Facts... Excellent Transport Links ...All Serviced Hard Standing Large Pitches...WiFi 100%...TV reception 100%... One of the best CLs we have used

We have been regular users of this CL since 2010. The site is always tidy and well maintained but as a working farm there will always be machinery and animal feed/waste within sight as well as cows grazing. Hardcore heap is near the farm building well away from the site. There are very nice views with a slight turn of the head towards the Cleveland Hills. We have seen how much electricity some use, so welcome the option of the meters as we use less than a pounds worth per day. Before meters were installed, we have seen on more than one occasion, a user going out for the day leaving an electric heater running in their awning! Not a nice thing to do for an all in price. Another campervan exhausted a £5 card from tea time to early morning. Mr & Mrs Littlefair are always pleasant and helpful. Free Wifi is available to all pitches as is connection to a fixed satellite dish. One of the best CLs we have used.

Easter weekend

We chose this CL because of its serviced hard-standing pitches (a long weekend in March you've got to expect bad weather, and no-one likes mud in the caravan and filling the aqua roll in the wind and rain!!) and its proximity to the A1, and for that it cannot be faulted.  Really easy to find with good access, close to the A1, friendly owner, a great information pack and good sized tidy pitches all positive. On the down side, there is constant road noise from the A689 (but considering how close it is and the lack of trees between the site and road you can only expect this, so it isn't such a big problem). We have to agree with the previous review about the huge pile of rubble, not the best view out of the caravan window.  Also, it seems that the owner has installed electric meters but there is no mention of them on the CC or the CL's own website or when we booked via email a few months ago, it did prove a little awkward on arrival when we paid the owner the fee he stated on email and he paused ... then agreed to honour the price he quoted on email without charging us extra for electric.  We probably won't visit this CL again because we would use the Club site instead if visiting the area.

Sadly not good value

Stayed at Donnewell recently, for proximity to sedgefield/Hardwick Park it can't be beat. The pitches are all hardstanding, fully serviced and are well spaced. Now the negatives. Unfortunately the site is very unkempt there is a huge mound of rubble and other items of rubbish littered about the site. It is just off the busy A689 so although there is constant road noise living fairly locally, we were aware of this so can't complain. There are no shower or toilet facilities on site, which again, we were aware of.  We stayed for one night and were charged £15 (electric is charged upon leaving) As local Club Sites with all their facilities (electric included) only charge £17 a night we probably won't use this site again.

Very nice CL

Only stayed one night as travelling North, but would go back if we were in area. Good hardstand for motorhome, freshwater and waste drain on pitch. Easy safe walk into town and I agree with owner & other reviewers that Number 4 café does indeed do exceedingly good cakes and quiche & bread too. Very good value cl at £12.50 and only wish other cl owners would try as hard as this one to make visits memorable for all the right reasons. Road noise not too bad when we visited.

Recent stay: 8th August 2015 for 3 nights

Very warm and friendly welcome, information pack with details of what's on in the area. This is a working farm and there is also some noise from the main road but this did not spoil our stay at all.Car free walk in to Sedgefield and bus stop to Durham or Middlesborough. Used park and ride for Durham which had 4 spaces for motor homes and caravans. £2 return pp. Brilliant. Great cafe and cake shop in Sedgefield, "No. 4" and Sainsburys not too far away for shopping.Loved this site, well kept and owners couldn't have been more helpful. Will definately return if we are in the area.

Great CL

We were on this site for 7 nights at the beginning of July 2015 and loved every minute. On arrival we were met by Peter who gave us all the info we needed plus a very useful information folder. Lovely well kept site with serviced pitches.Central location for touring around. We will be back.

Excellent CL

Just come back from spending a week here. The site was clean and well sited for visits out and about. Full service pitches with Sky Tv ( if you take your sky box with you) the pitches are not quite level but there are bricks and wood to help you with this. We will be returning.
