Dolgadfan Down Time

Are joined at the hip to your modern technology? If you can’t be separated from it, except by surgical procedure, then Dolgadfan is not a place I would, in all honesty, recommend! However, should you feel the need to unwind, slow down a bit, step off the rat race treadmill for a while, and become part of the Human Race again, may I suggest you don’t waste a minute longer, and take a trip to this place of outstanding natural beauty. Okay, so sometimes mobile phone signals are a bit ‘iffy’, and the television reception suffers the same fate but, take the time to breath fresh air, watch and listen to the birds, take one of several walks in the area, directly from the site, do whatever you want to, when you want to, without being dictated to by schedules, timetables and other technological demands. My wife and I have just returned from a seven night, peaceful, break at Dolgadfan where Buzzards, Swift and Pied Wagtails were observed from the caravan and Owls heard hooting at night. The on site ‘exclusive use’ toilet and shower facilities put some Club sites to shame and are among the best we’ve seen. In Llanbrynmair there’s an excellent Cafe and a couple of Pubs which serve superb food along with a shop, where most basics can be purchased. Give Dolgadfan a try; speak to Mrs Anwyl, or her son Brychan, and get yourself down to this green and pleasant land; what have you got to lose? You may regain some of your humanity and a renewed outlook on what’s important, and what can wait.

Walking Break

Stayed on this site for 5 days, really peaceful site, with fantastic walking in the area. The site owner, and her son, were very accommodating, always willing to chat, and pass on useful info about the area. Weather was superb, which always helps. It was nice to leave the car alone, and head off on walks from the camp site. Great little convenience store in the nearby village. Really recommended

Lovely

Spent a couple of days here with friends April 17. Lovely and relaxing, beautiful setting. Used their printed guides to go walking in the hills, the views were breath taking. Two miles to the village, where the cafe alone was well worth the trip, also had a nice meal in the pub, at very reasonable prices. I'm sure we'll be back.

The best shower and loo ever

We were here the week leading up to August Bank Holiday, with one other unit! Why???? Its a fantastic location, very peaceful and with the best shower and loo we have seen on any site, CL or commercial. In fact it wouldn't disgrace a 4 star hotel. Unlimited hot water, large shower cubicle and spotlessly clean. The site is on a working farm, but is quiet for all that. The owners are very friendly and lent us detailed maps for local walks. We went to the Dyfi Osprey Project, SE of Machynlleth on the A487, as well as the Ynys-hir reserve a little further on. The main purpose of the trip was to re-visit the Centre for Alternative Technology north of Machynlleth on the A487. I wasn't as impressed as I was in 1976! We will be back!

Wonderful Site to "Get Away from it All"

Spent two nights here in May on our way round Wales. Impressive scenery and lots of nice walks in the area. Warm welcome from the site owners, and a very well maintained site. It is also only slightly sloping. Note however, we couldn't get any tv reception here - and FM radio was also poor - but remember - it is a peaceful site. Impressive toilet and shower facilities, beautifully clean, similarly water taps in abundance and chemi closet emptying facilities. The peace is only broken by the very occasional fast RAF jet plane zooming down the valley, or the tractor going down the nearby lane - this is a working farm after all. There are lovely walks nearby, great for dog walking, although dogs must be kept on a lead while on site. Many thanks to our hosts for a lovely site - we will definitely want to return.

A Site for all Seasons

What a brilliant little site, nestled in a valley south of Llanbrynmair. A small working farm, this site has a mixture of hard & grass pitches, EHU and water locations dotted around. As a bonus it also has a very modern, extremely well-fitted seperate shower room and a toilet cubicle, both with underfloor heating. The shower is free to use and the water is hot & plentiful. The grounds of the site are very picturesque, the owner Gwenda and son Brychan work hard to keep everything in good shape, The location is ideally suited to walkers, you can pick up hill-walks directly from the site, straight up into the surrounding hills. The area is a hunting ground for numerous red kites, so you will almost certainly have those gliding above as you climb. We've just had 3 glorious days walking from the site, exploring the area. This would be a great site to stay at with friends during the winter period. Isolated, peaceful, but with the mod-cons if required. Mobile. I could get a signal on the 3 network(enough to check FB/email. I would recommend downloading OS maps, if your reliant on a phone app for walking. TV is possible on the site, dependent on which pitch you select. Overall an excellent few days, on a really lovely site, that's managed by good folk. A pleasure to visit.

A Campsite of Birds and Beauty

My wife and i have just experienced a wonderful week of Welsh hospitality at Dolgadfan Farm where the Toilet and shower facilities are first class.   We received a very warm welcome on arrival and were guided to a suitable pitch and shown all the relevant service points. My bird feeders have never been so busy with Nuthatches,Great,Blue and Coal Tits plus the odd Squirrel competing to get their  share of the seed. The Buzzards were plentiful in the hills beside the site. Brychan and his mother Gwenda were very welcoming hosts, we even shared a glass of tipple or two and conversation in the farmhouse one evening. We were very sorry to leave such a peaceful place after 7 nights and can't wait to return next year.

great spot to get away from it all

Would endorse other reviews praising this CL. Warm welcome, immaculate grass, great toilet / shower facilities, superb views with reasonable access of A470.We had a great week staying here. Just note that if you cannot manage without your technology this may not be for you. Terrestial tv reception virtually non existant and radio very limited (we had the week choosing between 5Live and Radio 4). As for  mobile phone was EE ok, vodaphone poor to non and O2 no signal at all.

One of the best

My wife and I have just returned from a weeks stay at this site. Do not be put off with your first impression when you first arrive. It is a working sheep farm in rural Wales. The site is excellent with spacious grass and hard standing pitches. The facilities are very good and modern. It is very quiet with only the sound of sheep and farmers going about their daily routine. The owners are very friendly and they made us very welcome. There is plenty to see and do in the area, and the views are amazing. We would recommend this site to everybody who likes the great outdoors. Please support CL sites they are there for our enjoyment and pleasure.

Fabulous week in Wales

Our first time at Dolgadfan Farm but we were not disappointed at all. This site is set in a stunning and picturesque location. The site is excellent with well kept grass and facilities. The toilet and shower are top notch. We stayed for 7 nights and were made very welcome by the site owners Brychan and his mum, Gwenda. There are good walks from the site and National Cycle Route 8 goes past the door! The fishing at Lynn Clewedog is suburb and only 5 miles from the site. Day tickets are £18 (£16 concession) - exceptionally good value. I caught 19 trout over five days, all excellent fish of about two pounds. Definitely make this an annual visit.
