If you are looking for peace and tranquility, surrounded by beautiful countryside, then this is it. Easy to find. Just take care as you approach the farm as the sign is not easy to see. The fully serviced pitches are basically level, large and well spaced with excellent views across to the Pennines. The pretty village of Appleby is half an hours walk and has a couple of small supermarkets and several places to eat. Excellent CL.
A couple of days before we were due to arrive I noticed the review below. I was a little concerned so emailed Val asking for clarification of the site we would be staying on. Val contacted me immediately and reassured me. On the day of arrival Val contacted me to let me know she was going out and which pitch to pitch on. When we arrived we were amazed by the incredible views and great serviced pitch. Val came to see us on her return and was very welcoming and pleasant. She showed me around and gave me information on local walks. There are lots of great walks in the area but we didn’t walk as much as we intended as we preferred staying on the site watching the cows and hens and enjoying the views. We loved the visits from the hens. The sunset and sunrise were also fantastic. This is the most welcoming CL we have stayed on. We can’t wait to return.
We arrived here for a 1 night stop over on our way down South. We picked it based on the description on the CC website and the their own website. On arrival, we pulled into a concrete courtyard area in front of the farmhouse and a nice friendly lady came out and welcomed us. This courtyard which was effectively the driveway is where we were told to pitch up for the night. The tap and drain were nowhere near the caravan and as we had booked a "fully serviced" pitch we didn't have the water container or waste master with us (we were staying in fully serviced pitches for the full holiday). The owner provided us with a bucket for waste and left us too it. As we had planned to stay here the following week for the way home, I asked if we were going to be put in in the same "pitch" or in the actual CL site at the back of the caravan which was lovely! She told me no, we would be in the driveway again so I cancelled the booking based on the false advertising as we definitely didn't get what was being advertised. The reason given was someone had booked for 7 nights and the owner couldn't be expected to turn that down for someone who had only booked 1 night, I said I understood that but she should either have cancelled our booking or at least called to advise the change so we could have been prepared. The owner offered to refund us, I said no thanks as we had stayed but she refunded us anyway.
Just left this cl and there’s absolutely nothing I could say that’s wrong with it as we loved it.
Lovely welcome from owner who showed us where to park and gave us a detailed description of several walks in the area.
The whole site was immaculate and the views are amazing. Yes, there’s cattle next to the site and yes, they ‘mooo’, that’s what they do, but I loved seeing them, also a few chickens wandering about, but they added to the charm of the place and eggs are often available too😋.
Single loo which is a bit basic but always clean.
The walking is great with so many trails and paths to follow, you’ll not be bored.
Loved it, thank you Mrs Bellas
Rang to book for cl informed cl was full, offered alternative "farm site" ( same cost as cl). Site turned out to be farm yard with stored caravans in Dutch barn and farm buildings at other side. Views one side only very good. Unfortunately being close to farm buildings we were subjected to typical farm noises (tractors & animals) all day everyday. Did not feel we were on holiday at all. The cl looked beautiful and would have no hesitation to go on to cl but be aware of the alternative site.
Superbly organised site with amazing pitches. We were lucky enough to be on a pitch with a view over towards the North Pennines. The chickens could be seen scratching and pecking around the site pretty much during hours of daylight, we thought they were a bit of a bonus. Very friendly, especially if you have any food...!
Within easy walking/cycling distance are Appleby, Brampton and lovely Dufton. The lanes are surprisingly busy for such a rural location although vehicle noise wasn't a problem but we walked into Appleby along the lanes and had to spend a great deal of time leaping onto the verge as a vehicle came careering towards us. However, access from the A66 was very good and we have a very large motorhome, but far enough away for the noise not to be an issue.
The pitch itself was superb with everything literally within a short distance. And the weather was superb too, what more can you ask for?
Its been a while since we have been to Appleby and so glad we decided to stay at Crofts End very last minute when Wales went into lockdown as Crofts End will be a return destination. Easy to find once we turned left at the junction over the bridge instead of right :-) Andrew was on hand to guide us to our spot and even advised on which way to site and get the best of the views. Electric hook up and water close by and also the grey water drain. Not too big of a site which made it even better. A decent walk into town to stroll around and take it all in again after last being there. Fresh duck eggs on the site entrance to buy, which we did and had for breakfast the next day. Spoke to the owners daughter in law who was really friendly and welcoming and even bumped into her in town as we were going around the outdoor market. Overall a great experience for just our second time away.
CROFT ENDS, APPLEBY CL234 29-23 July 2020
Lovely CL. Well run and friendly. 30 minutes walk into delightful market town of Appleby, and good walking onto the fells directly from the site. Easy access through immaculate and “flower decked” farmyard. Set of five spacious pitches each with electric hook up, own drinking water and own grey water disposal. Each pitch has a hardstanding surrounded by lawned area with plenty of space between units. The front three pitches having excellent views across the valley. The rear two being staggered to also provide good views. Excellent and spotless stainless steel chemical toilet disposal point which is cleaned regularly and also disinfectant spray provided. There is an additional and almost identical set of five pitches adjacent which are actually a licensed site. The two areas seem to work well together and do not detract from the CL experience. Longer term storage is also offered with caravans being moved from out of sight storage area behind farm buildings onto the CL and sited as a service to customers. Lots of thought obviously been given to Covid situation and translated into sensible practical action such and collecting refuse from each site. An obviously well invested, friendly and efficiently run site. Thanks to Val and Andrew for a great stay. We look forward to a return visit.
O
This CL is outstanding. The welcome from the hosts was genuine, the 'super-pitches' were a luxury we hadn't experienced previously, and the immediate area had footpaths that are well-signed and actually exist! We were sited on the top of the 3 mini-sites so had uninterrupted views across to Dufton and Merton Pikes with High Cup Nick in between. In a 3 night-stay we got up all of them straight from the site through Brampton with very little road-walking needed. Cows and calves were in the neighbouring field, with inquisitive chickens and ducks walking around the site. The upkeep of the grass and site was top-notch with sensible extra covid measures introduced. Certainly an all-year site with hard-standings and paved drives. We will be back.
We stayed here for four nights over New Year. Amazing views and so peaceful with lovely walks from the site. Wished we could have stayed longer, we will return.
