A wonderful gem of a site!!

I noticed the sign to Collierhall CL on the way to Edinburgh and followed it! I had been looking for a rural place to overnight in my VW Campervan. On arrival, I was greeted warmly by the owner and drove around the corner of the farm to be greeted by a fantastic view of the countryside and a small field with electric hook up. The price of £10.00 is outstanding! The toilet and shower are spacious and clean; and because it is a brick built structure, was also warm despite cool outside temperature. There is also strong, stable Wifi which is so helpful as I work on the road! If you are looking for a site with a playground, shop or more than one toilet to avoid queues, when the site is full, then this site may not be for you. For me the tranquility, the friendly welcome and beauty of this CL site suits me perfectly and I will visit again.

Happy Holiday

We have just spent 14 nights at this site which has wonderful views over open countryside. The site is very well signed on the road and also on entering there are signs advising on where to pitch, dog walk, water, waste disposal etc.. We had a very warm welcome from Barry, the owner, a very pleasant and helpful person.  It is everything you could expect from a CL and perfect for travelling around area as easy access to main road.

*Misleading Reviews*

It is very disappointing to read the totally negative reviews of ‘Doggiedaft’ & ‘Mollyminx’ for what is a very good value for money CL clearly being enjoyed by others. Having stayed there despite Doggiedaft’s review it is obvious that there comments are largely unfounded. It is on a farm with some tired buildings (not uncommon on farms) but once on the CL there are pleasant views. Mollyminx’s comments about accessibility are also misleading. There are some concrete ramps which should not cause problems to most outfits. Obviously members with longer caravans with twin axles being towed by cars with a degree of tail overhang should mention this at the time of booking in case this is a problem! This site is £10 with a basic toilet, shower & free Wifi! If it fails to meet some peoples exacting standards then pay £25-£30 and go elsewhere.

Also unhappy traveller

We have to agree with Doggiedaft's review 100%. We also left within half an hour of arrival. The actual area of the CL is not particularly accessable because of the very steep concrete ramp you have to go up and the grass area very bumpy making levelling very difficult. There is a little paddock area which did look quite good but here again you are expected to go up an even steeper damaged concrete ramp risking bottoming out your car or caravan or both. Mr Dunlop has installed more electric points but the area which is probably the flatest does not have an electric point and you are expected to run your cable across the entrance to the CL area--not a good idea. We will not be back.

Unhappy Traveller

SadGoing by others reviews we booked this site for a week... and stayed for all of 5 minutes before leaving. A dilapidated farm is what I would call it, and needs to be looked at by the caravan club...told the owner we were not happy and leaving and he said "well it is only a cl site what do you expect" I expect higher standards than what he was offering, a hole in the ground for your toilet waste and lots of roofs falling down on the farm!!! hard standing was where a building had been knocked down (or fell) and no way in the ground could you possibly put in awning pegs.....grass site was next to a gate where cows must be brought through every day and was all churned up....sorry to say we wont be back left and was booked into a site that we use regularily in Newton Stewart within 5 minutes of leaving instead

Very nice farm CL. We will return!

Lovely little CL.  We WILL return. The entrance looked tight, but once you have entered just the once, you realise it isn't all that tight at all. We got a 7.5m motorhome in and out with ease. The site has signs posted with very good advice for your arrival. One sign tells you to simply drive around the back of the farm and someone will come to see you. Barry made my Dad and I most welcome upon our arrival. He showed us around the amenities. A very pleasant chap! Its a well cared for little site on a working farm, but we found it peaceful.  Very distant road noise during the day. Very quiet at night. We chose a hardstanding in a walled section. Gave us a little wind protection and nice underfoot, but there is a beautiful grassed area as well. Barry is upgrading the site and he was laying power cables to add more power points when we were there.  The Wifi is good and free. We used our MH to visit nearby Lanark, but a bus stops is nearby.  I did think twice about writing a review as we don't want this CL getting too popular! We would like to keep it to ourselves!

lovely site with friendly owners

We have stayed on this site a lot last November, January February & March this year firstly to help our son & his wife to find a flat in Glasgow & then to come & renovate it for them. The site owners have been very friendly & helpful throughout. The site is ideally placed for visiting Glasgow Edinburgh & the very interesting New Lanark & Clyde Falls Lots of improvements have been carried out during our stays & the owner is obviously making a big effort to bring it up to scratch. The free WiFi is a brilliant addition Its excellent value for money & still would be if it cost a bit more. The views are lovely & its a very peaceful place to be. We will definately be back
