Nearly but missing

We stayed for 2 days in July 14. Lovely site which we enjoyed. The potential here is great, it is close to Canterbury and with a little more money spent on it, it could be a real winner. Main concern is the excessive amount of goat/sheep droppings on the site which adults may accept due to the nature of a CL (Not crowded and in tune with nature) but it may put a lot of people off who have young children. Our overall rating of this site would be a 3.5

Great long weekend

As motorhomes of only 6 years we are now discovering the differences in moving from main cc sites to CLs This was only our 4th one so few comparatives so a few comments Ideal for Canterbury and the north and South Kent coasts Very very genial host and very good information sheet that helped us enormously Waste and recycle facilities empires daily Gorgeous countryside Toilet waste access easy to manage by the mrs! Grass was short and advised was a recent cut It could be a challenge getting in from a narrow rat run road but we did it in one in a 9 metre motorhome (but had to help a Dutch caravaner by splitting his can and van) The road is noisy during "rush-hour" and care is needed leaving then Trains are in a deep cutting and hardly noticed Friendly sheep around (young kids and sheep droppings???) There were 7 units on there one night with 6 electric  stands but it's a big field and one just overnight traveller so no issue to us Weather was gorgeous which helps but site on high ish ground and again no issues with a 4.5 tonne unit....  So all in all quite lovely and greatly enjoyed by two couples in two motorhomes

Poor access and poorly maintained

Having stayed on a large number of CLs over the last few years, you tend to expect a certain standard. We were very disappointed with this CL and would not be visiting again. The access is very poor and frankly very dangerous. We ended up travelling up the road and turning around because the signage was covered up with overgrown hedge! The field looked like it had not been mown for months, possibly years, the grass was so long it was bent over! This made it difficult to negotiate the various lumps and bumps in the field. The railway line is not that noisy, but like said in other reviews, the owner does have anything up to 8 caravans at a time, for which they are only covered for 5 (according to the sign on their gate?) At one point, our electric point was unplugged by another caravanner! When I raised this with the owner - who does not live on site, she provided us with a heath-robinson styled extension lead to split our electric point and did not seem bothered that she had so many caravanners on her site. With this level of care and attention, it is quite obvious that we will not be visiting this site again. Really disappointed.

And the nightingales sang in...

A site which is not easy to find but which was worth the search. Very pleasant with friendly sheep nearby and nightingales singing after dusk. Peaceful, despite the proximity of a railway line.

We shall return.

Thank you Christine for the opportunity of staying in your lovely Cobbs Meadow. We appreciated the company of your sheep, hens and the wild rabbits. One night the nightingale did make its presence known but he didn't keep us awake for long. We would love to return. Thanks again and we wouldn't hesitate in recommending your site. The facilities were excellent for a CL site, clean and well serviced.

A big meadow near Canterbury.

One acre of flat grass meadow located on the western outskirts of Canterbury, and is a basic tap in the corner, hole in the ground sort of CL. The grass is a bit long and tussocky. Situated beside a railway line in a cutting, but the train noise is not intrusive. Access to the site is along a narrow lane with high hedges and the entrance is a bit tight. If you miss it you'll have to go further down the road to the C&CC site down the road to turn. There is plenty of room (there were seven vans at one point during our visit.) Horse stabling in adjacent field share the same entrance gate. A walk / bridleway into the city takes approx an hour. Do not try to locate this site with a sat nav.

Comment from Community staff:

We’re delighted that you had a pleasant stay at this site and thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I just wanted to add a quick comment to advise that I have been in touch with the CL owners and they would like to comment on the condition of the grass on site. They have advised that it was a very wet late summer in 2012 and it was very difficult to mow all of the grass in between the heavy rain. Normally, this is a well mown site. I hope this helps clarify any concerns you may have and again thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

August stay

I think people like the first person who gave a negative review should stick to CC Sites and pay the price, sit in neat tidy rows on manicured grass and have wardens watching their every move! We enjoyed our stay at Cobbs meadow. Mrs Ash was there every day, provided an excellent welcome pack and we had no problems. OK, you have to be careful getting in, and we actually trimmed the hedge back ( as we always carry secateurs ) so the sign was more visible and perhaps the grass was a tad long, but this is a CL! You don't (or shouldn't) expect the same standards as CC Sites. You use them for the peace and quiet and lack of Rules and Regulations! We have used nothing else for over 20 years.

Rural yet central to attractions

We recently spent four nights at Cobbs Meadow, not our first stay. This is a peaceful, well maintained and friendly site in rural surroundings, yet close to many attractions. Canterbury Park and Ride services being a just short drive away. The site has all the facilities one would expect from a well maintained C.L. Two fresh water taps, two rubbish bin sites and one of the best well screened chemical toilet disposal points. The site is spacious, the units being well spaced with plenty of all-round room. Little chance of being overlooked by a neighbouring unit. There is a railway line running along one side of the site. As this is in a deep cutting it is invisible and virtually silent. We have pitched by the fence seperating the line from the site and hardly noticed the passing trains. The site owner, Mrs Christine Ash, does not live on site, but nearby. Mrs Ash visits the site regularly, is most welcoming and always ready to offer help. Our two grandaughters, who live some six miles away, love the site and always demand to spend at least one night with us during our stay. The approach road is on the narrow side and must be treated with appropriate caution, it is after all a rural area which has remained unchanged for many years, adding to the attraction of staying at the site. To be recommended

Cobbs Meadow

We spent 10 days at this CL in August in our tourer. We had good weather and the grass was cut whilst we were there. Instructions from the owner state there is a "elderly people" sign at the entrance to the site and you need to swing in from the opposite side of the road. Unfortunately the hedges were quite high and partially obscured the sign so you would need to approach slowly. Exiting would also be made easier if the hedges were lower on either side of the entrance. The site was clean and well maintained with two water taps, two refuse areas and an easy to use elsan emptying area. After booking the site we noticed on the OS map that a railway line ran alongside the field, which gave us some concern. In actual fact it is in a dip obscured from the site and noise was minimal, we weren't aware of it. There is some road noise but mainly during rush hour. We visited the local Unicorn pub where we had a very warm welcome and the food was excellent! Supermarkets abounded - Waitrose, Morrisons, Asda all within a mile or so. We met the site owner three times during our visit who made us very welcome and gave us lots of helpful advice. The site fee was £12.50 per night. We had a very peaceful time here and will definitely go back. Highly recommended.

A very spacious CL

I'd have to disagree with the previous reviewer. We spent a happy fortnight here in June. This is a massive field for five caravans so loads of space and I can't say I noticed the length of the grass, so in my view at least it can't have been that bad. Two taps, one of the better waste disposal points by CL standards and electric hook ups. I'm pretty sure the fee was just £12.50 a night for all this which I think is about the going rate for what's on offer. Very good if you have a dog as there are a lot of footpaths close by. There is also a virtually traffic free cycle route into Canterbury Also recommend the Unicorn a 1/3 mile up the road which serves really good food within happy staggering distance. We did have some spectacular rain storms but that's not unique this year and hardly the owners fault.
