Great CL

After looking at the pictures we had to visit and were not disappointed. We were made very welcome and had our choice of pitches which was just as well with a long outfit. Wooden blocks were available to place under steadies and jockey wheel but the rear of the van was almost on the ground. Well worth it for the views and for Tintern Abbey which is close.

Fantastic views, not so good if long unit

On arriving on site, there were four other units, one of which was a motor home, which was parked sideways on. I realised why pretty soon. The views are fantastic, but the site is very steep. The one remaining place for us was impossible to reverse onto, as we have a 640 caravan and it would have knocked the end off! Therefore we had to park very near to another caravan and even then, it was difficult to reverse as the ground is so steep. Luckily, our neighbours did not mind our close proximity, but if we had been staying for more than one night, it would have been uncomfortable. Would recommend for smaller outfits, or if the site is not full. Again, the views are spectacular.

Beautiful spot

What a beautiful spot. Directions provided are spot on. The site exceptionally quiet, with fantastic views.  Lovely just to sit and stare with your glass of wine.  Lovely walks in the area and a great spot to get around.  You'll need good pegs for your awning, as the ground is hard core. Just a little occasional noise from the road, but honestly this was no real issue. The site is accessed through the livery, so can be a little chaotic when the horses are being handled. Both Steve and Lynn have a very relaxed friendly attitude and we were invited out on a pub trip on the Friday evening.  Apparently this is the norm! Facilities are very basic, just lift the manhole cover!! But when you look across the valley everything just pales into insignificance.

Arrived on a wet windy day, got set up before meeting Steve (owner) who came round to check all was ok. We both really got on well with Steve who invited us to his local pub (we didn't go but most definately will next visit). Absolutely stunning views from all pitches, would recommend this site to all if you are after fantastic views.Handy for Momouth, Chepstow Cardiff. SEE YOU AGAIN SOON STEVE. B &B Northamptonshire

What a View

Yes this is a basic CL site on a slope but it has huge views over the valley which are absolutely stunning. Steve is extremely friendly and helpful providing blocks to pitch your caravan in one of 5 bays giving everyone a view. There are footpaths on the farm and up the road about 25yds to the left and right so walking the dog is easy. This is a great spot to chill and good for exploring Chepstow, Monmouth, Tintern Abbey and the beautiful Symonds Yat on the river Wye.

Friendly Owner

This CL is about 1000 ft above sea level close to the top of a North facing slope that falls away sharply to give splendid and distant views of the countryside West of Monmouth and beyond.  A Trig Point in a field directly opposite the CL on the other side of the road has a 360 degree view.  Other attractions of the site are lovely countryside, peace and quiet, close proximity to the Wye Valley between Chepstow and Monmouth which includes Tintern and the friendly owner who will drive you to the pub!  The site is an oblong strip of land running along and sloping away from the road, the road being slightly higher than the site.  Access is through a small stable yard, that has all the trappings of a working farm, and a track running parallel to the road in front of the pitches.  Attempts have been made to level the track and first four pitches, which have been dressed with scalping that is overgrown particularly on the pitches.  The grass could have done with a trim but that may have been due to the time of year.  When we stayed the pitch closest to the farm was occupied by a stored caravan and motorised horse box.  It might be difficult to get a caravan onto the furthest pitch because the track doesn't go far enough and there is no levelling.  All the pitches back onto the road and are separated from it by a hedge which when we visited had been trimmed and had lost most of its leaves.  Very little traffic used the road but when it did it was noticeable.  Our neighbour reported that rain water running off the road made the site wet and slippery and they had difficulty in siting their caravan.  When we arrived the ground was damp but our 4x4 and mover were able to cope and levelling our 7.25m caravan was not a problem.  The site's altitude ensures good mobile phone and TV reception but it also gave us fog which again could have been a time of year thing. The adjoining fields which drop away steeply from the site had horses on them.  There is a horse exercise area 150 yards along the road that is visible from the site.  The nearest supermarkets and other amenities are in the attractive towns of Chepstow and Monmouth which are reached by car in 20 and 25 minutes respectively.  There is no obvious walking from the site, other than along the road, and footpaths and roads further afield will involve a descent and climb!  Similarly, cycling from the site will only suit the energetic.  A 1:25,000 Ordnance Survey OL14 map is a good purchase as it covers the CL, Wye Valley and Forest of Dean beyond that.

Views, Views Glorious Views

This is our 2nd time at this fab CL and we just love it.  As others have said it is sloping but use the blocks provided and you'll be fine. There are 2 entrances be sure to use the one that is signed it is much straighter but narrow our Hymer 634 managed OK, just. Steve had us moving some day old ducklings just about stopped them from escaping from my small cupped hands.  Hope they are still thriving as we stayed a couple of weeks ago. Lovely walks abound and great lanes for blackberry picking. Well recommended and open all year, may fit another visit in. Don't forget your binoculars so many birds to see in the valley below.

Stunning views, peaceful site

We've just spent 7 nights here and will definitely be back.  Absolutely stunning views: you could just sit and look all day as it's always changing with the light.  However, there is plenty to do in the area, from the Wye Valley to the Brecon Beacons all within easy striking distance, so loads of walks.  Would particularly recommend Wyndcliffe Court Sculpture Garden and, at the other end of the spectrum, The Big Pit at Blaenavon. We found the site easy to access and Steve, the owner to be very welcoming.  It is on a slope but blocks are provided.  No facilities, but that suits us - a fair exchange for the views and peace and quiet.

Worth a visit!

I thought about not posting a review of this CL as I don't want it fully booked the next time I book to go there! But the owners richly deserve a good review. Although there's no hanging baskets or tubs of flowers decorating this CL, it doesn't need it thanks to the breathtaking view which other reviewers have mentioned. The route to the CL is well sign posted and easy to find. I would say larger caravans and motor homes might find it not easy to pitch up as there is a slight slope.Luckily Steve (the very nice owner) has left three large wooden blocks on each pitch (you WILL need them!). There are no toilet or shower blocks on this CL but you have EHU, water and an Elsen point (and you can get good TV reception). I would also recommend you bring binoculars so you can see the Red kites more clearly as they circle in the valley below. I highly recommend this CL to club members. Again I will say, if you have a large caravan or motor home, you will have problems getting on the pitches.
