A Sightseeing Stay

Very beautiful, peaceful stay at Chillingham Barns. The site is very clean and pretty with a useful information shed, lovely views and plenty of room between each van. Theres also a lovely little wood to walk your dog from the site which is really handy for last thing at night or first thing in the morning. We took a trip to Simonside Hills which was really nice with great views when you reach the top and also went to Dunsborough Castle which took you on a lovely coastal walk then into the ruins if you want to. So much to see in Northumberland so will definitely return here.

Peaceful and Pleasant CL

Lucky to get a pitch here and it certainly exceeded our expectations. No problem with social distancing as there is plenty of room between pitches. Lovely views of the surrounding countryside and well placed for exploring Northumberland. Dog friendly with a nice woodland walk on site.

A Peaceful Haven

We spent 10 nights at Chillingham Barns and couldn't fault the site, surroundings or owners. On arrival, Aimie came to welcome us and give us details of interesting places to visit, and also made the time to come and bid us farewell, when we left. The site is spotlessly clean, due the fact that Aimie always had cleaning solution and cloths in her hand. There is the opportunity to buy homemade chutney and jam on site at very reasonable prices. No extra charges for awnings and loads of space even with 5 caravans, all spaced far apart. We will definitely visit again.

Really well run lovely CL

Excellent CL from welcome to departure. Good basic facilities and easy access. Good hard-standings available. Just a pity we could only book one night in August as it was so popular.

Excellent CL

This is a beautiful CL with amazing views out over the countryside. The owner is really friendly and welcoming and we had a great week here. The kids loved the huge field and exploring the woods next to the site - for site guests use only. We would definitely come back here when we are next in the area.

Tranquillity

This is a lovely, peaceful, rural site famed for its dark skies. Apart from the first two nights we had the site to ourselves. There had been a lot of rain recently so the site was a little muddy but nothing we couldn’t cope with. The site is run very professionally by Ami on behalf of her father-in-law and she called to see us on a couple of occasions to make sure everything was OK and to offer advice on where to visit, shop and eat. There’s a lovely little information room on site with home-made jams and chutneys for sale and DVDs and books to borrow. Unfortunately, it continued to rain for most of our stay, so we missed out on seeing the stars, but we had a great time and will definitely return.

Perfect CL

We've just spent a most idyllic week at this charming CL. Amy is a lovely woman who makes sure your stay is everything you would hope it would be. The site is very well kept and the information shed is a little gem including home made jams and chutneys. We had the weather on our side which was an absolute bonus to visit the nearby beaches for dog walking. These beaches are the best we have ever seen beautiful views and open spaces - delightful. This CL and Northumberland in general has just shot up to our number one site and county. We will return!!

Excellent CL

Thoroughly recommend this large, well-kept CL to anyone who’s planning to visit Northumberland. The quiet rural location is ideal for a relaxing holiday and being close to many visitor attractions, you don’t have to drive miles for a good day out in coast or country. Ami is an excellent host who visits the site most days to answer questions and check that everyone has everything they need. The information shed is probably the best I’ve seen on any CL. All the information leaflets you could want about the local area are in the shed along with paperbacks, games, DVD’s, etc. Highly recommended!

weather did not play game

Every thing perfect except for the weather. We can not fault the site and surrounding area put the field would not dry out so spent a week in a very boggy field. Normally every thing would be ok but if it has rained for any amount of time don't forget your wellingtons

A Perfect CL

We live in the south-east/Dartford Crossing area and life is too busy, dirty, broken and noisy. This CL is a complete contrast and we can only echo the other recent reviews. Ami works hard to keep things trim and her guests happy but I fear we brought the bad weather with us, with exceptionally heavy rain for several days. However, the CL enjoys an elevated location and is well-placed to explore Northumberland via its deserted and quiet road network. Don't miss Chillingham Castle, which is just a short walk away. If the ground is wet or rain threatens we suggest that you keep away from the lower slope of the site - it can get sticky - but there is plenty of room for five outfits on the higher ground and levelling blocks or ramps are not necessary. It was cloudy during our six-night stay and we didn't see the night sky which, we were told, is quite something. Highly recommended!
