A Perfect CL

We live in the south-east/Dartford Crossing area and life is too busy, dirty, broken and noisy. This CL is a complete contrast and we can only echo the other recent reviews. Ami works hard to keep things trim and her guests happy but I fear we brought the bad weather with us, with exceptionally heavy rain for several days. However, the CL enjoys an elevated location and is well-placed to explore Northumberland via its deserted and quiet road network. Don't miss Chillingham Castle, which is just a short walk away. If the ground is wet or rain threatens we suggest that you keep away from the lower slope of the site - it can get sticky - but there is plenty of room for five outfits on the higher ground and levelling blocks or ramps are not necessary. It was cloudy during our six-night stay and we didn't see the night sky which, we were told, is quite something. Highly recommended!

Lovely peaceful site to explore from!

Very friendly owner who takes a close interest in the site. Lovely, extremely spacious cl. in a very good position to explore the area by foot or bicycle, with small quiet roads adjacent and lots to see and do. Good views from site and a lovely village nearby with pub and shop. Well organized facilities, grass well cut and collected. Does get boggy after heavy rain but this dries out within 24hrs. given the chance. Price £15 this year. Good information hut with books, cd's and homemade jams! Dab and phone/3g signals good. All in all an excellent cl.in a great position.

Wonderful stay at Chillingham Barns

A beautiful site, plenty of space, easy to access local attractions and the owner was very friendly and able to make lots of good recommendations for places to visit with our young family. Thoroughly recommend and will be visiting again.

Chillingham Barns C/L A gem of a C/L

Spent a fantastic 6 nights at this brilliant c/l. Open spaced field with fabulous views. Ami is a very good host, and very knowledgeable about the area. The Northumberland coastline is amazing, very clean with miles of lovely bays and sandy beaches. Chillingham castle nearby is very quirky and well worth a vist. This is top of our list for another visit,as everything was PERFECT. Thanks Ami for a lovely site, a credit to you and your family. Eric and Carole Manley.

Perfect

We have just spent 9 wonderful days at Chillingham Barns. Easy access onto a closely cut field with copious space, and a warm welcome from Amy our host. The views over the hills really do set the scene. We will return not just because we simply ran out of time, there is so much to do, but this must rate as one of the best CL's in the country. Thank You

A perfect introduction for our first time in a motorhome

One night only and not too far from home - these were the stipulations when choosing a location for the first trip in our newly-acquired motorhome, and Chillingham Barns ticked all the boxes. Ami could not have been more helpful, from accepting our fairly late booking for just one night even though it was a Bank Holiday weekend, to letting us stay on well past midday. On the edge of the Northumberland National Park surrounded by fields, woods and sheep, the site is in a perfect location if you're seeking peace and relaxation. We enjoyed an evening meal and good beer at the Percy Arms in nearby Chatton (a half hour walk), then headed back to the site to bask under an amazingly starry sky. The site is on the edge of the UK's 'Dark Sky Park' area (https://www.visitnorthumberland.com/darkskies) and if you're a stargazer this is the perfect spot. The amenities are simple but everything works - electric hook-up, water, chemical toilet disposal, recycling bins. Being novices we had no idea what to expect and maybe this is just standard, but the simplicity of the site and helpfulness of the owner made it all, well...simple. There's access to a woodland walk which is handy if you have a dog, and nearby Chillingham Castle and Wild Cattle Park (no dogs) are within easy walking distance. But as the sun was shining so brightly and we had to test the awning, we set out table, chairs and cold drinks, and just chilled out. Our first taste of life in a motorhome couldn't have been better, and we'll definitely be back.

Quiet peaceful site, good location run by charming family. Recommended

We thoroughly enjoyed our 8 day stay even though the weather was not kind to us. The only two problems we had were down to the weather and not the site, mainly mud and potholed access road. The family who ran the site were charming, helpful and very pleasant. Despite it being a working farm, we did not have any disturbance and was lovely and quiet. We will be definitely returning.

Perfect Location

We stayed here recently for 3 nights as we are based in the North East, this CL has to be one of the best we have stayed on. For caravaners and motorhomers travelling to the area for the first time, this would make a perfect base to tour the area, as you are not far off the A1 (north & south) A697 from Scottish borders. We had a lovely welcome from Amy and her sons Robert and new born Richard, the pitches are very spacious and the views of the Cheviots are superb. There is a small shed with information on places to visit, Chillingham Castle is a 20minute walk from the site. Well worth a visit and we will be back.
