Just Perfect For Us.

This is one of the most peaceful sites we have visited. We read the description and reviews everything suited us perfectly. We were able to walk our Border Collie direct from the location which is situated some 1/2 mile from the nearest road. As others have said all you can hear is the wildlife. We are amazed that somebody thought the owners could control the weather but note they had the courtesy to contact the guests and advise before their arrival. We are also pleased the Club supported the site owners. This is a working farm but if you enjoy peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings this is a CL worth visiting. Beautiful site, but odd experience

Just back from a two night stay at this CL. As all the other reviews have said, it is a beautiful and very peaceful site. Nothing to be heard except a few sheep and birdsong. Unlike other reviews though, we found communication with the owners quite poor – we didn't see them at all. They didn't welcome us and explain where facilities were – though this in itself is no big deal. At 8pm on our first evening however, just as we were relaxing and enjoying the tranquility, a man on a motor-mower drove right up to our van and mowed around it – within a metre of the van and very close to our power lead. Once he'd mown round the van, he drove off to mow elsewhere, then came back and did it again! He then mowed over the already mowed empty pitches for a few more minutes before leaving. I know this is a working farm, but as we were the only people on the site, and as two females, we found this really odd and the proximity to our van a little intimidating. I messaged the owner Jess about it, and to ask whether our van was in the way (although the site was empty, maybe we were on the wrong pitch?). I didn't get a reply. Such a lovely site, but the oddness of that experience has put us off returning.

Disappointing

Unfortunately this CL wasn’t all we hoped it would be. There had been a lot of rain, the owner sent an email saying we may have to park on the gravel. When we arrived the farmer didn’t know we were coming and had let sheep in the field, so there was quite a bit of sheep poo. The ground was absolutely sodden, and we got stuck trying to manoeuvre. The farmer pulled us out, so we parked on a very small patch of gravel. We couldn’t walk on the grass at all. We thought the owner should have cancelled our booking as the ground was unfit to use. We booked at a CAMC site not far away., and left after one night

Comment from the Club

Thank you for providing feedback on your stay at Carlton Grange CL Site, Hvy14. We apologise that the weather conditions affected your enjoyment of your stay and we appreciate your understanding of its impact on the CL Site's grounds. As part of their commitment to ensuring a pleasant stay for all guests, the CL Owner's always send out notifications in advance if there are any changes or adjustments needed. In this case, they had advised guests to site their units on the stoned area due to the wet conditions. We understand that it may have caused inconvenience for you but hope you appreciate the communication prior to your stay.

As mentioned on the CL website page, they are a working farm with animals. We recognise that this may not have aligned with your expectations. However, we would like to refer you to their previous 5-star reviews which highlight the unique experience of staying on a working farm.

Please be advised if you ever have any concerns during your stay, please speak to the owners who will always do their utmost to assist.

Peace and tranquility.

We spent 7 nights at this peaceful farm site at the end of July. Ideally placed along a quiet country road 2.5 miles from the bustling market town of Helmsley, there are a host of places to visit within a 10 mile radius of the site and numerous walks right from the site over Helmsley Moor and beyond. Pitches are well spaced and the grass is kept nicely mown. Both Jess and Andrew were most welcoming and despite the rather showery weather we had a full and active week enjoying the wonderful scenery of the North York Moors and Ryedale. An excellent location in this beautiful part of the country.

Little Gem

What a beautiful site. Jess welcomed us and explained the layout and where the bins and loo disposal was.(loo disposal is easy and recycling facilities too.) The very best bit...... Silence, beautiful peaceful silence! We saw bats at dusk. Heard owls. Saw hares boxing. Listened to the woodpeckers in the forest. Night time was spectacular. The sky was lit up like like glitter had been sprinkled in abundance, even the Milky Way can be seen! Helmsley is a pretty market town, loads of cafes, bakeries, local shops and a few pubs. Friday is market day. We had a couple in the Royal Oak Pub which was warm and friendly and dogs allowed. There is a castle here too.(National Heritage) Riverlux is pretty we didn't visit the Abby, but did a massive walk looking down at the Abby. Andrew and Jess thank you for sharing your beautiful site with us we will definitely return.

Great location - so peaceful :)

We have just enjoyed a 4 night stay at this great CL. It is so peaceful and a perfect location for walking or just relaxing with a book! It was so lovely to hear owls hooting and watch bats darting about at night. We will definitely return one day.

A truly outstanding CL

This was our 3rd visit to this stunning and spacious CL in less than 12 months and I can only describe it as a total haven of peace and tranquility where you can totally switch off from the stresses of everyday life. The location is perfect - amazing walks where you literally see nobody, yet also close to beautiful Helmsley and many other interesting and scenic places to visit. The only problem is that we never want to leave!

Beautiful location - peaceful and quiet

We were welcomed on arrival to this beautiful quiet site next to a working farm with a few young lambs in the nearby field. It is a wildlife haven with owls and many birds in the nearby sheltered trees. Walks and access to stunning moorland scenery are wonderful. Thank you to our hosts for a complete switch-off three days, close to Helmsley and Rievaulx, and even with great mobile signal too!! We will be back!
