Great location but needs some TLC

The site was easy to find, we had no problem with the sleeping policemen as we went slow enough not to cause a problem. We wish more campsites would have them for people who don't understand what 5mph is. The welcome was nonexistent we didn't see anyone for 3 days, others had the same problem yes it was confusing where to pay. The campsite is in a lovely location, very quiet & a great base for walking & cycling. Lovely views. As the previous review said the toilets/showers were very poor, because something is old doesn't mean to say it can't be kept clean. The new ones will probably be up & running next year let's hope more effort is made to keep them clean. The grass was very long, so long is was difficult to see the tired pitch numbers signs. As the title says just some TLC this site could be excellent.

Stunning Location

You will find it hard to find a more peaceful and picturesque location for a CL as its right by the canal and has lovely views. It is only let down by the terrible shower and toilets but the owner is in the middle of building brand new facilities and I would expect these to be finished for next year. It gets booked up in advance so forward planning is necessary to avoid disappointment.

Lovely canal view

Pleasant site, with great view of the canal and boats. Countryside was beautiful. We found the entrance to the site a little confusing as we could not work out which building was reception. I was disappointed that, having looked forward to having a shower needed 20p to have one. As we had no change, I went without! As one of the more expensive CLs we have visited, I expected more.

Good Location, could be great with a bit of effort.

Firstly this site was easy to find, the first impression though was not good. There are 3 very large sleeping policemen on the access and this does not help a towed caravan, as can be seen by the massive scrapes on theme. I am not against sleeping policemen but these are excessive. The second impression though is positive as this is an attractive site next to the Marina and amongst hills. I won't say anything about attractions, if you are going to the Beacons you can research that elsewhere. There is a pub along the canal if you walk for a mile, and we saw an otter when stood on the aquaduct 1 mile in the opposite direction. The is a large step up on to the grass, which can be a little lumpy (not a problem isf you have nobody sleeping in the awning). We also thought the grass had not been cut in weeks, but on our last day we saw the grass being cut and it was being 'left long'. We prefer a CL with Toilets and shower, although not vital. It has to be said that the toilets were better than average, but could do with a coat of paint and a clean of more than once in the 5 days we were there. the shower curtain is in need of replacing. However, the owner was nice enough, and the critisms are targeted more at turning this from a good CL to a very good CL. Will I stay again when I am in the area, the answer is most probably.

Superb location

This is a great site right on the canal and has lovely views of the canal and countryside. Pitches are a bit awkward to get to as there is a slight grass bank in front and just one area which is flatter for access. We had to drive the motorhome up to the small car park at the end to turn it round in order to drive out as all pitches were occupied so there was not enough room to swing round. Toilets and showers are fairly rustic but are adequate. Good value for such a stunning location. Will definitely use it again if in this area.

Nice but needs some care

This was our first time on a CL and we were disappointed. The site is nicely situated with lovely views and walks the canal walk is really lovely but the toilet facilities really do need an uplift. The grass had not been cut in a while and there were dog droppings on the grass which meant you had to tip toe everywhere in case you stood in anything and as we had a few days of rain your trousers were soaked walking to the car. The pitch we were on was not the easiest of pitches to get your caravan onto as it was quite high in places so much so we broke a foot of one of the rear legs. We would not visit again which is a shame as the views were outstanding and it was lovely and quiet. It has not put us off trying a CL again but next time we will make sure we read the reviews before we book.

Canal-side Site in the Heart of The Usk Valley and Brecon Beacons

Beautiful, welcoming site with sweeping views down the Vale of Usk and across to Pen y Fan (Brecon Beacons). Very peaceful location; the A40 is only about half a mile across the valley, but we heard very little road noise; the noisiest things we heard were passing canal boats and families of ducks. There's a decent pub in Pencelli, The Royal Oak (dogs in the beer garden only), about 20-30 mins walk down the canal, or the Swan in Llanfrynach is 5 mins drive away. Brecon, Crickhowell, Abergavenny, Hay on Wye, Llangors Lake and more are all within easy reach of this very centrally placed site. the only thing that lets it down are the facilities (toilet/shower block) which need updating. Still, at £12 a night it's excellent value and a fraction of what you'd expect to pay in this area. Very dog-friendly. We will definitely be returning.
