Charming CL site

A peaceful, friendly site in a pretty village. Opposite the Mardale Inn a dog-friendly pub where you can get good food and drink. Very clean toilet. Well located for walks up Bampton Common and around Mardale. Only downsides are no little or no wifi or mobile data. Also dog walks from the site involved walking on an unpaved road, but it wasn’t a big deal. We will return here.

Peaceful, simple site, very well kept.

Stayed 2 nights in June. Friendly owner. 5 well kept large pitches with EHU. 1 immaculate loo. Fresh water and waste facilities. Great location for long walks...Make sure you can read OS maps as some footpath signs disappear! We walked over Bampton Common with great views of the reservoir below. Handy community shop and the village pub is simply gorgeous. It's also community owned and with friendly staff and locals. If you intend to eat here, you must book in advance. We sadly didn't so unfortunately we missed out on the meals. Happy to drink in the dog friendly bar though. The campsite also sells fuel and it really is a bargain price - we were unable to take advantage, having filled up in Penrith. This site is family owned and the village is very pretty so I'd highly recommend spending your time (& money) here. We'll visit again.

Lovely place and people

Beautiful spot and probably the nicest bathroom we have seen so far. The place was easy to find, although coming from the south there are a couple of very narrow spots. Once settled, we had sleep and Cons as our neighbours. As mentioned in previous comment there is no phone signal there apart from in a corner of the filed. Also very little 4g but there is wi-fi at the pub. Lovely walk and bike rides from there. Very nice chats with the owners.

Cl site

Have just left Bridge end garage site after a 3 week stay. We both didn’t want to leave what a spectacular site with red squirrels making the odd appearance. The only downside very poor phone signal we did manage to get 1 to 2 bars in our van just lucky. Wi-Fi in pub and local shop both under 5 minutes away. Good reviews about food in pub didn’t eat there I like to cook in van did have a few pints after our evening walk. Walking from site is absolutely stunning whether is up mountains or hill in front of site. Wife dropped myself and dogs off at bottom end of reservoir 4 hour walk back along footpath opposite side of road No problem getting into site we have a large twin axle buccaneer If you want peace and quiet you won’t find a better site

Absolute bliss

Our first trip out as members and we chose this wonderful site. We have a twin axle caravan and found the way in from Shap village a little tight, so went home via Askam. Although it was further and longer, the roads are much wider and much less stressful. The site is extremely well kept (bins, disposal point etc) with plenty pitch space. Single toilet that was very clean. Owners very friendly and helpful. They have fuel at their garage on site, which is a lot cheaper than anywhere else we saw. Haweswater is well worth a drive by (or walk) and at the end are three choices of walk, of varying lengths. Shap Abbey is beautiful, with a river to cool off for people or dogs. We tried the Punchbowl Pub at Askam - delicious food but very slow service. Shap chippy is great and there's a co op open til late if you run out of milk! We would definitely go back.

Peaceful site. Great for bikes - lots of off-road trails in the area. In The Lakes, but quiet.

Best find in ages?

What a find! Bridge End Garage CL is the best new site we've come across for a while. Very clean and tidy. We didn't use the toilet/washroom but had a peep inside and it looked very clean. The water tap area, recycling facilities and CDP were all immaculate. Our pitch (all pitches were grass) was level.... Great to not need chocks! We walked from the site down to Hawsworth reservoir and back along the lanes (about 8 miles). We also walked from the site to the north shore of Hawsworth, through the fascinating village Burbanks (information available about the flooding of the area and building of the dam and reservoir), over the hills (very steep climb) and back to the site(about 12 miles) . This site is worth £18 a night for both its location if you're into walking and the condition of the site itself. Only negative is the village pub seems to be closed so take your own! We will definitely return.

Delightful Site

We received a cheery welcome from the owner on arrival who showed us all the facilities and where to pitch up. The CL is located in a well tended field behind the owners charming old village garage in pretty Bampton. It was very clean and well maintained along with all the usual site facilities clearly labelled. The location is very peaceful and tranquil, great for relaxing and watching the birdlife, plus we had a visit from a red squirrel. There are lots of opportunities for lovely walks in all directions from the site. We chose this site to meet and walk with friends who were doing the Coast to Coast walk. Having visited the site we will now go back for a longer stay and spend more time walking in the immediate area.

SUPERB little CL

We stayed here at the end of May 2021 for 8 nights in our little camper. The owners were so friendly and helpful, without being intrusive. The toilet, recycling point, septic tank etc was exceptionally clean and well organised. There are some lovely walks in the area and lots of birds and we were visited every morning by a red squirrel. You really do not feel as if you are only a few miles from the M6! There's also easy access to other areas of The Lakes. This is one of our favourite CL's and we shall be back.

Friendly welcome and great base

I agree with previous reviews, this is a great little site and feels off the beaten track although only a few miles from Shap. Lack of mobile signal is quite nice for those wishing to get away from it all. Owner was very welcoming and helpful. Plenty of walking from the site and only a short drive to Haweswater for more great walks.
