Friendly welcome and great base

I agree with previous reviews, this is a great little site and feels off the beaten track although only a few miles from Shap. Lack of mobile signal is quite nice for those wishing to get away from it all. Owner was very welcoming and helpful. Plenty of walking from the site and only a short drive to Haweswater for more great walks.

Lovely quiet site

We stayed here in our motorhome for a few nights in September. We found it a lovely little site. The grass was getting a bit boggy after it rained before we left, but having put some grids under our tyres when we pitched, we got moving ok and the momentum got us off. The site is generally flat. The toilet is kept very clean, and the facilities were all good. Poor to non-existent mobile signal )but it's good to get away from the 21st century, especially in current times! We found it good for rock climbing (short drive) and walking (we did a walk out onto the fells from the door). If you like wildlife, a beautiful, endearing and friendly little jackdaw (apparently hand-reared by humans a few miles away) came to visit regularly! Would return here if we wanted to stay in the area.

A 5th Wheel adventure!

Stayed at Bridge End Garage early in January 19 on route to Scotland. We picked it due to ALL Year opening and were not disappointed. Access for our 12Mtr rig was interesting and strongly advise sticking to club direction instructions, do not follow satnav and the 6'6" width restriction signs are to put off heavy goods vehicles but the rubbish truck still gets around so I knew we would fit! We did follow satnav IN and had to negotiate a narrow single track GATED road with large stone walls close on each side. Access to location is tight over a humpback bridge and certainly tested our nerves and manoeuvring abilities. Fortunately for us there were no other visitors and Mr Bowness could not have been more accommodating and helpful. Site is grass which was wet but we were allowed to use the hard stand area which was fine. Mr Bowness helped position and even fully cleaned our rig with his on site pressure washer, also providing a hook up extension lead, now that's service! Site is beautiful and quiet, the toilet clean, functional and refuse and water all accessible and in good order. Mr Bowness is thoroughly engaging, helpful with directions, local information and the fuel available from the on-site pumps compared very favourably with costs in the Penrith supermarket, when you consider its a 12 mile return trip. As a stop over this was a great site and around 15 minutes off the M6 when following Mr Bowness's instructions. If you are staying or visiting the Lakes I know it is well placed for local exploration and will certainly be back in future at off peak times.

A step back in time

This site is next to a garage in a very quiet village. We felt as though we had stepped back into the 1950s with the old petrol pump signs. Grassed area which could get very soft in wet weather. Clean and well maintained facilities, local pub and post office. Plenty of walks. One for those who want to escape the 21st century.

Pleasant site in the National Park

Very good for access to the north-east of the Lakes, especially Mardale (Haweswater) and the High Street range. At a pinch you can walk direct from the site, using local country paths, to the open fellside, but these are indistinct because not much used. Smallish site but well maintained and secure: access is through a yard. Friendly owners. The name is slightly off-putting, but the site is in fact quite attractive, prettily sighted, and the garage pleasantly retro. Facilities built in local stone (because within the National Park?)--a nice touch. Bampton is also pleasant, with a tiny shop, and Shap is not far. Well worth a visit.
