Very friendly welcome to site, flat pitches and easy access to local attractions.
It's a shame the coffee shop recommended by other visitors no longer exists.
The title says it all really ….. a fantastic CL run by a lovely friendly family.
This CL has so much appeal!!
The site is well kept with the grass always kept neat. The coffee shop adds a dimension and it is nice to see the cyclists and other visitors pull up for their well earned refreshments .
The pitches are a good size and the amenities are adequate. John run's the booking system very well and always responds to enquiries. This site will be busy on many weekends because as well as being a great CL it is situated close to the fantastic NT Wallington Hall (take your bikes if you have kids) and Bolam Lake. If you are not local to the North East then the site is an ideal spot to visit Newcastle, Alnwick or anywhere in the North East really.
One area that could be improved is the chemical disposal point . It is adequate but a bit close to the coffee shop. I am sure this could be done relatively easily.
We have visited twice this year already and we will definitely return again as I said this is what a CL should be like and many CL owners would do well to take a look and follow the example of this CL
Thanks John and Kathleen and we will see you again

Lovely CL, very warm welcome from John & Louise, who are always on-hand to help or ask any advice or questions ref the beautiful local area/walks etc.
Spacious, easy to level pitches and good amenities on site.
The Stables coffee shop on site is a delight and well-used by cyclists, walkers and returners.
We have returned 3 times over the last 12 months and will continue again & again & again.
A little piece of relaxing and exploring heaven to us!
Thank you.
We have just returned from a two week stay at this site, the second time we have been there.
We cannot rate this site highly enough, being a very pleasant rural CL with wonderful views over the Northumberland hills and yet quite close to all the amenities you may need (( a very comprehensively stocked shop is only two miles away). The grass is kept well cut and the field is more level than most CL's I have been on with no problem in finding a level area to pitch on. We enjoy all the walking that can be done straight from the site as well as visiting a National Trust house less than three miles away. John and his family make you feel very welcome, nothing is too much trouble, and to cap it all, at weekends, there is a fantastic coffee shop on site!
Not the flattest as others have noted but the main issue we had was that it was crowded with seven vans on site throughout our stay.
Good and sheltered, but no views therefore
The coffee shop is excellent - only open Friday-Monday though.
Very friendly owner.
On arriving on site (16.4.18) we were pleased to see that despite a previous review we found a choice of pitches which were all acceptably level (not billiard table quality but it is unfair to expect that of a grass pitch). We were given a hearty welcome and fully informed of services - perfectly acceptable water supply with no possibility of “infection” if one uses a bucket or hose to take water to the emptying point (NOT a grate but lidded access to the waste pipes) to rinse out a toilet cassette. The tea room was very nice and handy - shame it isn’t open Mon-Wed.
This was an exceptionally good CL site - with elec hook-up, water and disposal - what more does one want? Our dog had a lovely time!
We shall return!
Site not as level as stated. The Toilet Waste disposal is a grate at ground level and there is NO water tap at this grate to wash out the toilet cassette. The water tap is some yards away and next to the drinking water tap. This could cause cross infection.
Welcome was excellent, but due to the recent rains the ground was extremely soggy. We were told that the most level part was close to the Barn, but it took a lot of levelling of our twin axle van to ensure stability.
Grass was long and whilst there had been rain the previous week, it looked as if the grass had not been cut for several weeks??
Appreciate that the site has a lovely cake shop with very friendly staff, but that is what appears to be the main reason for the site. There is an external toilet to the café, but this is locked when the café is not in use.... why could this not be left open for the caravans, which would have been welcomed, especially with the comment made above about the toilet waste!
We stayed at this site as it is close to places we wanted to visit. It was a bit wet buth where isn't at the moment. We were welcomed by the tea shop owner and told all we needed to know. The site is level with lovely views and access to great walks. Fortunately we were in time to buy some cakes for tea and the custard tart and the apple crumble tart were wonderful. Huge portions so they lasted two days!
Great area and really friendly owner and neighbours. Thank you
Peaceful and tranquil site. Met by the owner at the gate and was warmly welcomed. The owners could not be more helpful. The cakes in the stables coffee shop were excellent. Enjoyed our 2 night stay and recommend the walk up to Shaftoe crags. Pitch a little uneven but not an issue if you have blocks/ramps.
Just returned from a short stay break at this lovely CL. Good facilities on site, plenty of space between outfits, and some lovely views across the farmland. Owner very helpful, and the Coffee shop on site is worth a visit. Plenty of places to visit whilst in the area. Will certainly be going back.
