Fab views, great walking...

Great views from the caravan! We did a couple of walks, one from the site. This was a six miler to Chelmorton where we had a pint in the Church Inn. Landlady had to read the Riot Act to some thirty-somethings who hadn't heard of social-distancing! Only criticism of the site is that the grass hadn't been cut for several weeks, but that view...

Good stop between Buxton and Bakewell

We stayed at this site for 4 nights just before the call not to travel came in, so early March. The site was full on various nights, even with a sixth Motorhome joining for the one night. However I suspect that was just an "en route" stopover in view of the Virus crisis. The photos are slightly misleading insofar as the ground does slope from top to bottom, the top being from the second photo. The last 2 pitches at the bottom are nearly level. 2 water points, a grey disposal area and a decent Elsan, found around the back of the cl past the bottom pitches. We had no problem with EE coverage. Don't use a TV so can't comment on reception. The site is easily accessed, just don't confuse it with a commercial site a bit further up the track. There are some trees behind the site which provide a good shelter from any Westerlies. Lovely views from the site, good dog walking opportunities and there are multiple Footpaths that pass by. Buxton, Bakewell, and Monsal trail are on hand. We didn't see the owner but as we were trying to avoid contact due to the virus it didn't matter. There are instructions on the door of the old house giving you information and informing about prices etc. We posted a cheque through the door. Hope it survives the coming months. Will use it again some day (hopefully).

Nice Site, Recommended

Stayed here Jan/Feb 2020, Lovely site, easy to get to. 6 pitches to choose from some larger than others, all requiring some leveling, however not too bad. There are some aerial points but I didn't use these, 2 seperate water points and a concreted in toilet serves well enough as a chemical waste disposal point. Part of the footpath to the the Monsal trail is quite steep and was tricky following the rain at the end of january, however the trail itself is well worth it. We had to go looking for the owners to pay, some see this as a problem, I don't mind being left alone. I have no problem recommending this site if you are looking for somewhere near Buxton to stay.

Blackwell Hall-Highly Recommended

Just back from a 4 night stay at this lovely site. Perfect location for our first visit to the Peak District, being right between Buxton and Bakewell and walking distance to the Monsal trail. We used this site as a base to explore the wider area (Edale, Kinder Scout area, the Goyt valley and Errwood Hall near the Cheshire border). The owner will supply TV boost cables for pitches 1-4 (on the left as you drive in) but we stayed on the very end pitch and managed to get a signal with no problem at all just using our normal aerial. We had excellent mobile phone signal for both the Three network and Gifgaf. There are fantastic views from all the pitches and they are all spacious. There are drinking water taps at either end of the site and good recycling facilities. You can do several walks straight from the site, so great for dog owners like us. We ate out at The Anglers Rest in Millers Dale, which was 5 minutes drive from the site. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. There was an Aldi, Waitrose and Morrisons (with a garage) in nearby Buxton as well as numerous other shops and restaurants. There was some road noise during the early morning commute hours, but I am a very light sleeper so perhaps others wouldn't notice this. The site was peaceful at other times and quiet at night with dark skies. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at this site and would definitely return.

Very nice site

Hard to find fault with this site. The views are amazing and we would definitely return. Like some others have mentioned we could not get any tv signal despite the aerial points which have been installed, this could however have been down to our cable.

Winter Weekend

Just had a lovely winter stay at this CL, easy access from the A6, only a short stretch of narrow road on the final approach. The site has 6/7 hardstanding pitches, to give plenty of pitching options, they are not the largest but we had plenty of room for our caravan, using one of the spare pitches for the car. We did need a ramp to level the van however. There is plenty of space between pitches too. The views from the site are beautiful and there are plenty of footpaths, one which goes to the Monsal trail runs through the farm. You can also pick up the Pennine Way just down the lane. If you prefer to drive, the car park at Millers Dale is only a few minutes away. We didn't see the owners on arrival, just popped to the Farm to pay. We had no problems with the electric and had good television reception, and 4G with EE. Water and waste point are easily accessible and the CDP is out of site at the bottom of the site. It was very quiet, and very dark at night, no light pollution, remember a torch. The site gives easy access to the Peaks, Buxton and Bakewell. All in all a pleasant site and one we will use again I am sure.

Nice Site

Stayed 8 nights in June 2018. Nice quiet site adjacent to a working farm. No farm noise or smells. Site well laid out, 7 hardstanding with electric all with views, area of grass well cut, chemical toilet disposal 13 steps from end of site- better than looking at it I think!! Electric outlet for our pitch (nearest entrance) didn't work as RCCB faulty but standard cable could reach next double outlet along. No TV reception so watched a few DVDs. Owner can be elusive but very friendly. public footpath passes site Monsal trail in one direction. Had several visits from a pair of woodpeckers looking for dinner on the gate in centre of the site. Access to farm lane and site ok but cross roads and A 6 junctions not great visibility. Overall enjoyed site and would happily return

No television!

The previous reviews never mentioned the television reception. We couldn't get anything and had to rely on our DVD collection. It says that the reception is good so I don't know when the reception fell away. It was easy to find but the photos are a bit old as the site is showing its age. The views are stunning and although we had a night of high winds the caravan never moved it was just noisy. Because of the TV reception we wouldn't come here again.

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for your review. The CL owner has been in touch as since your visit they have had an Electrician visit and have had Television connections installed on each of the pitches so this will no longer be an issue for anyone staying on their site. We hope this helps and that you will visit again soon.

Did I mention the view?

I won't mention the view because it hasn't changed, lovely when the cloud doesn't obscure it. The site is reasonably well looked after, access in is OK for a twin axle, 24' caravan but out needs care and constant checking as it's a bit tight. The elsan disposal is away from the field and could do with some maintenance, as someone else has commented it would be nice to see the owners on site. We were there for several days and didn't see anyone, paid during the week as I've learned to either pay in advance or asap after arrival to ensure a quick getaway on the day of departure. Electric tripped a whilst we were there and another member left early because his kept tripping. At the time of our visit the supply was 10amp but the owners called out the electrician to check it all and I believe it is going to be upgraded to 16amp.
