Birchbank

The chemical toilet disposal - a drum in the middle of a sheep filled field - has put us off and we wouldn't return. Even the sheep walked away when I lifted the lid. It's a shame as the area is really interesting and well worth a visit.

Good location but...

No meet and greet you just set up and they will come to you at some point. Friendly enough though and the location is great for the NC500. I would echo other comments that the toilet is very basic. The Chemical Waste point should however be avoided at all costs - a half buried bin in a field of sheep, frankly disgusting. I'm very surprised that the site was recommended in the Club Magazine article on the NC500, perhaps the club may like to visit the site and encourage the owners to make some improvements.

Lovely Site/Spectacular views

Stayed for one night before going down the Achiltibuie road. Although we have been to this area many times we have only recently joined the Caravan Club so this was our first time on this site. Good base for Inchnadamph bone caves and Knockan Crags walks also ideal base for visiting Ullapool, LochInver and Assynt. Nice quiet basic site which is what we like. Owners very friendly. The weather was good so we were lucky to get the most spectacular views (don't think it's ever been this clear and sunny before when in area). Would definatley return. Thanks The Chippendales.

Friendly welcome

Arrived in bad weather, the owner was waiting at the road on his quad bike to lead the way to our pitch. Reasonably level pitches and well mown grass. A nice site with great views. Waste water emptying needs care as lifting the container up to the drain could put your back out. Our second visit to this CL, and would come here again. We stayed a couple of nights while doing the NC 500

Stunning LocalPlacesOfInterest

We stayed at Elphin for 2 nights and loved the area. The CL was level, quiet and with stunning views.  Climb to the hill at the back of the lodge for spectacular sunsets. Arrival was easy and the owners were helpful.  It is a great location for driving down to see the Summer Isles and walking on Knockan nature reserve. If you are touring the Highlands stock up with provisions at Ullapool.

Elphin

Fairly basic CL - no shower, but has WC. Good level pitches with hook-up. Decent walk to Loch Urigill. Convenient halt on journey south from North coast.
