5 day winter break at Birch Hill

Birch Hill is a lovely quiet site with easy access to Ellesmere. We spent 5 nights from 10th Feb to 15th Feb and Ian provided us with lots of advice as to places of interest to visit during our winter break. The walks from the campsite across the fields to Ellesmere and Welshampton are well worth the effort and the lanes are good for cycling as the traffic is minimal. It's a very nice CL in which to relax in a very nice part of the country.

Very Mixed feelings

The site is nicely kept and has lovely views. We thought the long talk on arrival was a bit over the top since we had received numerous emails regarding guidelines & rules .We felt like school children. On arrival we were hindered by 2 resident dogs (very friendly & welcoming) but they made it hard for us to even enter the site as they would not move from the road. We parked well away from the farm so we could have more privacy as we knew other travellers were pitching on that day so we could choose our pitch which was an added bonus. We stayed 2 nights and was hassled by the dogs throughout our stay. One was jumping up on our car and just would not leave and kept jumping up at us. Fortunately we are dog lovers but not alot of people would like that. Also we had to check each time to see if the dogs were wandering around our caravan as our small dogs were very nervous and frightened. Nobody was in site to manage these dogs. This really spoilt our time there. Its great for the dogs to have freedom on their own land but we think they should have been restricted to their farm house. The site is set back from a busy main road but it did not bother us. It was not too noisy. If you want to go into the town it is quite a walk on the busy road but 5 mins in the car. The site had a lovely short walk The Dell for the dogs, although we did not take ours there. Unfortunately the site was not for us so will not be returning but do not let it put you off. Hopefully the hosts can sort this problem out.

Splendid cl!

Enjoyed a short but very enjoyable stay earlier this month. Ideal location and well maintained facilities. Owners very attentive but not intrusive. Looking forward to further visits.

What a treat

Our first visit to Birch Hill, it won’t be the last. What a great welcome from Ian, full information given, lovely site, so quiet, with great views. Greeted by Amber and Jess lovely retrievers, our dog Ben made very welcome, in fact Ian came and asked it Ben could come and play with Jess. Location is great, super recycling amenities, great attention paid to keeping everyone clear of Covid, which was lovely to see. We will definitely be back. Best place yet.

Lovely 3 night stay…

Our first time at Birch Hill and had a lovely peaceful 3 night stay. The site is far enough away for peace and quiet, but still very handy for Ellesmere and it’s local attractions. Being only 5 caravans and on such a big area there is plenty of space and the views are very scenic. The booking system works a treat and we were greeted immediately by the professional and friendly owners along with their two lovely welcoming dogs. All info was given about site and surrounding areas and nothing was too much trouble. We will certainly return and recommend to others. 10/10

Enjoyed our 3 night stay

A comprehensive, useful and warm welcome from Ian and we used the part hard standing which worked well for our 7.5m MH despite some heavy rain at night. The site is a good location for quiet peaceful bike rides and you can take the MH to big Tesco in Ellesmere where there is a nice selection of shops and pleasant walks along the canal. Would return when next touring in the lovely Shropshire area.

Another relaxing break at Birch Hill CL, Ellesmere

This was our 2nd visit but this time joined with our friends who, like us, thoroughly enjoyed the 2 weeks we spent at Birch Hill CL. Ian and Janet made us feel most welcome and we all appreciated the Covid safety policy measures which are in place to keep their guests safe. The site itself is very well signposted with good access. There is a choice of pitches each with 16 amp electric and free WiFi – we chose 2 with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Levelling blocks may be required as the site is on a slight slope – shouldn’t by a problem however. There was an abundance of wildlife whilst we were there and the site is in a quiet and peaceful location. Ellesemere is 1 mile from the site and has several shops and restaurants – we can recommend Asian Spice – and there are pleasant walks along the Llangollen Canal. Further afield are several National Trust properties that are certainly worth visiting. We have no hesitation in recommending Birch Hill CL and will certainly return when we’re next in the area.

Excellent well run high quality quiet CL in a beautiful part of Shropshire

We have stayed at Birch hill several times. Each trip has been excellent. The owners, Ian and Janet, are welcoming and friendly and operate a good covid safety policy. The site is immaculate, with EHU, grassed hard standings capable of supporting a 4 ton motorhome and loads of space. It is a quiet site, the only disturbance being when the owners dogs take a walk to survey the guests. A recent addtion are Glamping pods which are high quality. For those with teenagers the site wifi is great for browsing and email as well as FB and discord. The pre and post arrival information is first class, and the area is rich in walks, things to do and places to visit. Several take aways deliver to the site and they are all high quality, especially the Thai. For dog walkers the Dingle at the bottom of the field offers all dogs and owners a lovely litle escape from everything. You can walk along the road to Penley safely too. Local shops are brilliant as are the local pubs. Looking forward to our next visit.

PERFECT IN EVERY WAY

Very friendly welcome from Ian and Janet on arrival, including Amber, their very friendly dog. Ian gave us lots of ideas of places to visit, this was very helpful. We enjoyed this peaceful, scenic site. The town of Ellesmere has everything you need, the Mere and Canal was a very enjoyable walk. On our departure day we left early, this gave us chance to see the fantastic Sun Rise, wow, what a sight, well worth getting out of bed early to see. Thanks to Ian & Janet for a perfect sight.

The beauty of Shropshire captured in one site!

This was our very first site when we bought our motorhome back in Oct 2020. That stay was a bit wet and although we enjoyed ourselves we couldnt really appreciate the site and its surroundings at its best. Roll on to Aug 2022 and wow did we enjoy the great weather from the site as we basked in the sunshine. There were plenty of slots with both water and EHU and the chemical waste and recycling facilities were neatly tucked away in a corner. The slot we picked wasnt flat but it gave us the views we wanted and so with the use of ramps we made it work. During our first visit we didnt appreciate how close to the town the site is. Its a mile and has a pavement all the way and so is easy enough to get to and enjoy the Mere and the canal walk it can lead onto. We walked from the site all the way to Cole Mere via the canal and then back to the marina in ElseMere before walking back through town for a deserved drink at the Boarhouse Restaurant. Ian and Janet are very welcoming to their site and they provide a plethora of useful information for you so that you can make the most of your visit, We only stayed the weekend but we could have spent a week here if we had been able to. Being so close to Chester its definitley on our 'go to' list of sites for the future. Well done Ian and Janet!
