Lovely CL in a peaceful setting

My wife and I have just returned home after a peaceful couple of days at Birch Hill. It was our first visit and certainly won't be our last, as we came home suitably refreshed. Ian and Janet made us extremely welcome without being overbearing, and explained everything that we needed to know in a precise, understandable manner. All in all a great experience, and a big thank you to Ian and Janet. Many thanks, Les and Angela

A good basic CL

The site is a good sized irregular shaped field. There's plenty of space and despite the slopes there's sufficient 'flat spots' for everyone. For wet weather there's "grid under grass" hard-standings, although one pair of these felt a little close together (just need to be mindful of separation when setting up) and a couple of the spots were more "grid under weeds" than grass. Electric and water points are distributed around the site so you really can choose your spot. Views are good from the top of the site. There's free WiFi, although signal strength was somewhat lacking in one part of the site. Waste disposal and recycling are to an acceptable standard. Booking online was relatively simple, however be prepared for your inbox to be exercised - I received 12 emails and a number of texts as a result of this booking. Several of these emails related to local area information, the site owners are obviously keen to see that you have as much of this as you might need, including an information pack on-arrival.

A perfect gem of a CL

We had a lovely week at the truly delightful Birch Hill CL site just after Easter. . The site is situated down a quiet lane 1 mile (20 min walk along road/on pavement) from the centre of Ellesmere, with its beautiful mere and parkland. The information provided following our booking and prior to our arrival was the best and most comprehensive we have ever had. We were warmly greeted on arrival by Ian who was very personable and knowledgeable. He gave us a quick tour and told us about this very well kept site and we were advised of many of the best places to shop/eat/visit in Ellesmere and the surrounding area. Ian provided us with a super information pack including maps of of local areas & local walks from the site, which we found very useful. It was our first time visiting this CL site and Ellesmere and we will definitely be returning in the future as both the site itself and the area were excellent . Keep up the good work! Many Thanks Lynne & Ken

Pleasant site

Very warm welcome on arrival with very informative Introduction to the site and surrounding area. Very dog friendly with lovely walk down the dingle onto public footpaths. Well spaced out pitches with good supply of water taps and ehu. Pleasing views over fields and great location for exploring the local area and further afield. Will be returning in the summer.

Lovely 4 night stay 17th Feb 2023 - Great CL site will definitely be back

We had a lovely 4 nights at Birch Hill CL site and thankfully, for the time of year, the weather was dry and warmish for the duration of our stay. The site is situated down a quiet lane 1 mile (20 min walk on pavement) from the centre of Grassmere or 2 miles across the fields. The information provided following our booking and prior to our arrival was the most comprehensive we have ever had. It even included a short documented video of the car journey to the site from Grassmere which was a bonus as I usually try to look this up myself on google street view to ensure I don't miss the site entrance. We were warmly greeted on arrival by Ian & Janet and their two friendly golden retrievers Amber and Jess. Ian gave us a comprehensive chat and tour about the site and advised us of the best places to eat/visit in Grassmere and the surrounding area including details of local walks from the site, which we found very useful. It was our first time visiting the CL site and Grassmere and we will definitely be returning in the future as both were lovely. Keep up the good work! Doug & Paula

5 day winter break at Birch Hill

Birch Hill is a lovely quiet site with easy access to Ellesmere. We spent 5 nights from 10th Feb to 15th Feb and Ian provided us with lots of advice as to places of interest to visit during our winter break. The walks from the campsite across the fields to Ellesmere and Welshampton are well worth the effort and the lanes are good for cycling as the traffic is minimal. It's a very nice CL in which to relax in a very nice part of the country.

Very Mixed feelings

The site is nicely kept and has lovely views. We thought the long talk on arrival was a bit over the top since we had received numerous emails regarding guidelines & rules .We felt like school children. On arrival we were hindered by 2 resident dogs (very friendly & welcoming) but they made it hard for us to even enter the site as they would not move from the road. We parked well away from the farm so we could have more privacy as we knew other travellers were pitching on that day so we could choose our pitch which was an added bonus. We stayed 2 nights and was hassled by the dogs throughout our stay. One was jumping up on our car and just would not leave and kept jumping up at us. Fortunately we are dog lovers but not alot of people would like that. Also we had to check each time to see if the dogs were wandering around our caravan as our small dogs were very nervous and frightened. Nobody was in site to manage these dogs. This really spoilt our time there. Its great for the dogs to have freedom on their own land but we think they should have been restricted to their farm house. The site is set back from a busy main road but it did not bother us. It was not too noisy. If you want to go into the town it is quite a walk on the busy road but 5 mins in the car. The site had a lovely short walk The Dell for the dogs, although we did not take ours there. Unfortunately the site was not for us so will not be returning but do not let it put you off. Hopefully the hosts can sort this problem out.

Splendid cl!

Enjoyed a short but very enjoyable stay earlier this month. Ideal location and well maintained facilities. Owners very attentive but not intrusive. Looking forward to further visits.

What a treat

Our first visit to Birch Hill, it won’t be the last. What a great welcome from Ian, full information given, lovely site, so quiet, with great views. Greeted by Amber and Jess lovely retrievers, our dog Ben made very welcome, in fact Ian came and asked it Ben could come and play with Jess. Location is great, super recycling amenities, great attention paid to keeping everyone clear of Covid, which was lovely to see. We will definitely be back. Best place yet.

Lovely 3 night stay…

Our first time at Birch Hill and had a lovely peaceful 3 night stay. The site is far enough away for peace and quiet, but still very handy for Ellesmere and it’s local attractions. Being only 5 caravans and on such a big area there is plenty of space and the views are very scenic. The booking system works a treat and we were greeted immediately by the professional and friendly owners along with their two lovely welcoming dogs. All info was given about site and surrounding areas and nothing was too much trouble. We will certainly return and recommend to others. 10/10
