We stayed for one night to break our journey from Northumberland to Somerset. It was only 2.5 miles from the A1(M) and very easy to find. Using the farm layby, the recommended technique, we had absolutely no problem entering or leaving the site. The site services were all well maintained and conveniently positioned. Yvonne was very helpful and explained how to access the extensive dog walk. This site provided just what we needed. Thank you.
Very pleasant welcome from Yvonne who informed us of walks etc in the area. Large farm yard opposite site so no problem in pulling onto it, walk across the road to open gates and then, when traffic is clear (a passenger would be beneficial as an extra pair of eyes) , drive across the road (perhaps the left side hedge could be lowered a little). Ramps needed on one side of van. Simple modest site with nicely kept grass. Traffic can be noisy. We had a lot of rain during our overnight stay and became bogged down, fortunately the friendly farmer across the road helped us off the field.
I've just had another long weekend at this site and I just want to say that some previous reviews are misleading.
Yvonne the owner knows a lot about the area and is very approachable.
She does not make a fuss but is there if you need her.
The entrance to the site is on a main road but using common sense and following Yvonne's instructions to pull in opposite and then open the gates before entering it is quite safe.
There is some traffic noise but you are staying on a working farm, not in the middle of nowhere..
I have a dog and you only have to walk down the road to the entrance to the field about 50metres away and it is quite easy.
You do not have to walk down the main road to get into Conisbrough, just walk up the field and there are paths all the way down that are very accessible bringing you out near the castle grounds.
The site is very well maintained, clean and tidy and the Elsan point is spotless.
Just to warn caravaners that the entrance opposite and exiting the site is really dangerous as blind bends on both ways .Can see an accident waiting to happen. Which is a shame as the owner greeted us as soon as we arrived and the site was very tidy, but we had our hearts in our mouth as we pulled out of the site and entering it,we were on tender hooks every time
Just spent few nights on this noisY site furthest pitch is less than 50 yards from busy road, arriving leaving you need to be carefull as 50 yds either way of entrance are blind corners, Dont try walking into town, not far, but a very busy road with no pavements for first 200 yards.
All in all, a good site to avoid
Ideal site for travelling north or south on the A1(M). Pleasant, lawned slightly sloping area with basic facilities—water, Elsan, etc. Blocks needed for levelling, however some are available on site.
We booked in on our way north to Manchester and Yvonne was most accommodating. Be aware that you need to pull into the farm access road opposite before opening the field gate; you then get a straight run into the site. The access is on a sharp bend so care is required.
There is a walk across the fields to a garden centre (not tried as we were only there for one night) and there is a Fish and Chip restaurant at the bottom of the hill in Conisburgh. Small Sainsbury’s in town and the usual small town shops.
Highly recommended and we didn’t have too much of a problem with road noise - we’ve stayed on worse!! We feel £16 per night including EHU is acceptable and some charge far more for the same facilities.
Yvonne was very helpful when arrived. Very pleasant site, short grass, there is a slight slope on the site. Very pleasant surroundings. There is a dog walk very close by. Yes the road is a little noisy and quite busy but shouldn’t turn anyone off. The site is also convenient for Rotherham, the A1 and M18
If we are in the area again we would certainly come back to this site
Owner Yvonne was very welcoming. Basic site water, EHU & elsan disposal. But unfortunately this site is definitely not on a quiet road. We arrived mid afternoon and the traffic noise didn’t really stop until after10pm. Then it seems to be used by boy racers with really loud engines during the night. Commuting traffic starts again well before 6am. Plus you will have the tractor in field behind the hedge. It’s a shames as the owners are really nice but it’s just too noisy for us.
What a lovely find although we would only use it in the summer as we have a twin axle caravan and it has a slope. We were using the site as an overnight stop but would stay longer next time to explore areas of interest. The owner Yvonne, was so very welcoming, giving us information about local interests. She really made us feel welcome. We would have loved to have visited the garden centre that she recommended if we had been staying longer. For being on a main road it was a tranquil site with the road traffic not bothering us in the slightest. It is a nice neat rectangular site with the grass kept short and we watched as a red kite hovered overhead. All in all we would definitely stay again.
As previously stated this an ideal overnight halt for traveling north or south. It is just a few miles from the motorway.
Very friendly owner & excellent value.
Make sure you follow the instructions & use the farm yard entrance to stop while you open the site gates opposite, there is ample space to manouvre.
