A little gem tucked away in Battle.

WOW, what a fantastic site and run by the loveliest people. A very well run and friendly environment, clean, tidy and well kept, excellent facilities, 3 toilets and 2 showers on a little site means no waiting around. The owners are very approachable and helpful and help to make your stay very comfortable and relaxed. you will have to go a long way to find a better CL, I would highly recommend this site, thank you for a wonderful stay.

An interesting site!

The site was easy to find following the instructions in the book. Only problem was the state of the lane down to the site. Even going very slowly the caravan was rocked from side to side. The owner was welcoming and friendly. The toilet wasn't very clean and I wouldn't use the shower. The walk into Battle was interesting, we were given a map and tried to follow it but we got a bit lost, fortunately we came across someone who knew where to go so the walk back was very quick! We wouldn't stay here again because of the lane.

Nice Area

We stayed here September 2014. This site is ideal for visiting Battle and Hastings. We walked into Battle and caught the bus from the end of the lane into Hastings. The toilets could do with a more regular clean and the grass was well in need of a cut. I also feel that a surprise visit would be a good idea. Having said that paying only £14.00 a night to camp in this area is good value for money.

Area lovely, site BAD

We arrived on site to be told to get pitch wherever you like except next that van already there as they are saving it for friends, then he said my brothers away be back later if you want to know anything, if you don't or don't like what you see just go, we had travelled a fair distance so decided to use facilities before pitching, well we came back out without using them, they were filthy I wouldn't let a dog use them, a review in June said they were doing them up well they haven't yet, the grass looked like hadn't been  cut for a month or two, it's sites like this that give caravan club bad press, you need to check them more often and do suprise visit. We promptly left and went to stay on the cc site in Battle.

Laid back and relaxed site

This is a large grassy CL, slightly sloping, with a central flagpole! Easy to find, with an unmade access track which when taken at an appropriate speed (i.e. walking pace) is no problem. An easy walk into Battle, with lots of pubs etc. The site is adjacent to a woodyard and plant nursery but was quiet for the duration of our stay. The owners (Mike & Tina Turner) are welcoming and friendly. The WC and shower are perfectly usable, although not everyone on the site agreed, but they are in the course of being upgraded.

Great centre for touring

When my daughter booked by telephone at the start of the year, she was told that the site fee was £12. However, on arrival we were charged £14, but I didn't query this, as I felt it was still good value for money. The approach road is bumpy, but I've been on worse! Access to the site is really good, and the provision of a shower and toilet is a bonus.   Battle is only a ten minute walk away, and a ten minute drive in the opposite direction finds you at a caravan dealer, which could be handy if anything untoward happens.  Within 10-15 miles are three excellent NT properties, and we also found Hastings, Bexhill and Eastbourne to be within easy reach.  Our only disquieting moment came at the end of our stay. Our son-in-law's electric plug had fused (melted?) into the socket. Mr Turner was naturally upset by this, as he stated that his electric points had been recently checked in readiness for the new season. We were equally upset that the electric had not tripped, as it surely should have done if there was a problem. Personally, we had no problems at all with the EHU, so it must have been an isolated problem.Definitely  a CL worth visiting.

Great Summer

Keith's Wife. I must first start by saying I strongly disagree with the 2 negative reviews. Yes the road is bumpy with pot holes but take it slowly and there is no problem. Myself and my friend booked a 2 weeks holiday for us and the children. There was plenty of room on site. The owner accommodated the children by letting them ride theirs bikes in an adjacent field to keep them safe from cars on site. We had a small fire every night and there were no complaints from other users. The children love this site, there is a walk way across the field for us to walk into town. I am planning to go again next year. The children enjoyed the space and were happy being on the site, so this is an easy option for a cheap holiday. We saw Mike the owner most days, checking on every body or cutting the grass. The house is easy to find if you walk up past their lovely farm shop, where you will find the lovely Tina who is happy to help and take your pennies. As I said I stayed there in my van with my child and my friend and her children were next door in their van, we feel so very safe on this site. So looking forward to the warmer weather coming back so I can get my van out and head towards battle.

A GREAT CL - and only 15 miles from home

What a lovely long week- end we had at this site. Can't praise it enough. A nice touch to see a central flag pole, with a beautiful array of flowers at its base, union jack flying, especially on the w/e Andy Murray won Wimbledon. The owner, very friendly, keeps the grass short and the grounds tidy. There were just 4 units during our stay, with plenty of space. Great to have toilet/shower facilities on a CL site. Such peaceful surroundings, with super walks through stunning scenery. All this and only 15 miles from home. Hope to return again soon. dej 11.7.2013

A beautifull site in the Sussex countryside

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at this site with our friends, the grass was cut nice and short and when other units left the site, out came the mower to trim the area. The owner came over to us and welcomed us to the site, there is a shower and toilet for the use of at no extra charge ,easy walk to the main town, Battle along a footpath like one of the other reviews about the aproach road take it steady and it is okay, myself and my friends will certainly be booking up for another enjoyable stay thanks to the owner Mike.

Best Week Ever

Have just returned home after a weeks stay at Uckham gdns - totally different from the other 2 reviews on here, but can only comment on what we found there for the week. Quiet, peacfull, laid back. No queues for the shower (but then at most there were 5 units on site and none in the lower field were being used) - 2 of the units had dogs with them, but they were no problem at all. - Owner is so laid back he is almost horizontal and although the access road is not the best, take it slow and is no issue at all - (After all, this is a CL site, so do not expect the same standards as a full CC Site). Only comment was that it would have been better to have some net curtains at the windows to the shower / toilet - But I sorted that with a couple of tacks and a big towel. Found the owners bungalow dead easy, just asked - simples???. Have scored this site high as we think it is the best CL site we have been on - location excellent, good walks, not far from coast, within easy reach of other interesting places for days / half days out. Nice walk to shops if you want across the fields and only 15 minutes drive from a major outlet (Morrisons / Sainsbury). All in all, a brilliant weeks rest and recouperation. May be different if the place was packed out, but can only speak as I find. Am now booking again for 2 weeks later in the year
