Saving gas

I doubt I'm the first to come up with this but as a newbie caravanner - especially one with a dog - I thought I'd "share with the group"

On a CC site with elec hookup, we obviously run the caravan on electric heating rather than gas, except on the coldest of days, and even then only briefly (it gets too hot - the Knaus is VERY well insulated)

Obviously we use gas for cooking as the hob is 4 x gas, as is the oven & grille.

But the latest addition - and one which Ben the dog really approves of, is an electric blanket

Having run out of gas once, we now 'run' with 2 bottles (always a spare) but I really do need to look into those Safefil bottles which can be topped up ad hoc

Forgot to mention, I have blown site fuses whilst cooking. In Germany most fuse boxes are locked, so you have to call the warden. After keeping me waiting for a long time, the muttered comment was " you British with your water heaters". So I wasn't the first and proably not the last.

Well we avoid that by always washing up and showering in the site 'ablutions' block -  and using water supplied and heated by the site!  This saves over-useage of 'our' paid for electricity.  Are we taking advantage, do you think?Wink

By George I think She's got it, no guilt due to the peer pressure to use minimally, genius Valda, geniusHappy I'm converted. I just hope I don't start wandering around sites seeking out non 'ablutions blockers'. . . .That would be sadEmbarassed

You know, I posted the original message to share a thought / idea with others on something I find beneficial which others might also ........ so why 9 pages on does it seem to have devolved into some form of slanging match between people of different opinions ??

For Gods sake !!! Some people really are pathetic and sad - and no, I'm not naming individuals ....

I joined CC because I was told that unlike 'the other club' it had a more mature membership. Whilst that may be taken to mean physical age one would hope that it also meant a mental maturity as well.

Maybe I was incorrect in my presumption

You are more right than wrong Laughing.

I certainly hope so Mr Diver. The balance of everyone I've spoken with on site backs up my presumption, its only here on the forum that it is tested  Happy

DD will do moonchip Smile.  A tip.  When on site if you hear the battle cry "that's against club rules" depart the scene - fast.

Whilst I am generally non-confrontational, I do an excellent line in intentional deafness, after the obligatory " I'm sorry but I don't seem to have taken my 'like I give a **** ' tablet today'Laughing  Laughing

There are better things to do in life than to argue with morons !

Write your comments here...If a campsite owner decides they have to take action as the electricity bill is becoming to expensive and decide to go down the route of metering or just push the price up  then we all have to pay more because of the few who are taking advantage.

How is using service that has been provided and charged for taking advantage?

Write your comments here...so you are happy for other people to subsidise your over use of electricity, because that is what it would amount to

I really find statements like that very depressing - you must have such a low opinion of fellow caravanners if you think they might be so profligate that you end up subsidisng them to any great extent.

Look - when you go out for an evening with friends and buy a round of drinks, do you keep a record of what yours and theirs cost so that they can settle up with you at the end of the night if theirs are more expensive - you wouldn't want to be subsidisng their drinking would you? Sad. Use left and right arrows to navigate.

its interesting that, when suggesting a non-ehu option that relied on members 'trust', there were squeals that some would cheat or hook up into someone elses bollard.....

are these the same members, no doubt, that feel their use of an 'inclusive' system is beyond reproach....?

members are either good eggs (and we shouldnt lambast anyone, whatever process they are asked to use) or theyre a rotten bunch that fiddle everything, given the chance....

i expect there is a bit of both.....some will definitely overuse the current system, some would abuse any 'trust' system....

but its no good throwing our hands up in the air, we have to accept our position and move on.....either system could be a little 'fairer' if they were managed better.....but that takes effort.

Well I certainly didn't siggest that anyone would try to "cheat" the system BB!

I'm quite happy with what we have so as you say, lets accept our position and move on! Happy. Use left and right arrows to navigate.
