Outside Tv points

Run a Arial lead dire from your tv to the outside tv post a via your win do and you should be able to close the window without damage as the lead will just "squash" the rubber window surround, so it will still be sealed

And,  if  you  can,  apply  a  smear  of  insect  repellant  of  your  choice  to  a  strip  of  kitchen  roll  and  trap  that  in  the  window  where  the  cable  is. 

The  type  of  repellant  depends  where  you  are  so  you  could  always  ask  Site  Wardens  who  may  even  have  a  supply  on  sale,  but  there  are  :-- 

Jungle  Formula  --  Been  round  for  a  long  time

Smidge  that  Midge  --  fairly  recent  on  the  market  ( Designed  by  Aberdeen  Uni  I  think    )

Avon  Skin  So  Soft  --  despite  the  usual  comments  it  is  claimed  to  be  most  efficient  and  used  by  the  Forces  in  Afghanistan ( but  it  didnt  repel  the  Taliban  alas )

Several  others  around  but  have  slipped  my  mind.

P.S.  --  No  problems  with  Eurovision  I  always  did  like  a  sadistic  comedy  show 

The advice about entry via a window assumes you haven’t got a direct connection in the battery compartment. Don’t know if being on your first proper site means you might be new to your caravan as well, and may not have thought to check if there is a connecting socket for the aerial in the battery box. You may also need a male/female coax connector.

Having had several caravans and motorhomes, none with external access points, I've always found/made a discrete and watertight access/connector point. If your van is in warranty period just be careful to hide the ingress made, and make sure to mastic it well to maintain watertightness. The wheel arch plastic moulding has proved that answer on two occasions!

Our Affinity has an external satellite and tv aerial connections, however the tv point is to use one in the awning.

 The connection from the roof aerial to the booster is removed and then I connect the cable for the outside to the input. Then connect the feed from the external aerial feed and this works perfectly well.

We often have to do this as our van has the 'stick' aerial which is not particularly reliable.

Some caravans have an external satellite input socket, usually in the battery box. This can be used for the cable between the bollard and the caravan but you will need an 'F' type / RF cable adapter both for this socket and also for the fly lead from the television to the satellite socket inside the caravan. This saves having to have the cable going through a window but, as others have said, you can completely close the window as the cable will just squash the rubber seal.  The adapters are very cheap.

I've never used one though as I've either found a spare cable entry point or connected to the external telly point.

The aerial connectors on the side of the caravan can be confusing.  Some are set up so that 1. You can connect to the side of the van and watch TV in the awning, and some are set up so that 2. You can connect the aerial point on the bollard to the side of the van and watch the TV in the Caravan.

Ours is set up for 1, but we want to use it for 2, so we need to change where the end of the cable goes at the amplifier in the cupboard.  Our external wire goes to imput 3 of the amplifier, but to use it as an aerial imput, it needs to go into the aerial imput (.... the same input as the roof aerial).  This means switching the wires over everytime you want to us the point on the side of the van.  What I intend to do is to do a more permanent fix by using a splitter at the amplifier end so I can plug in both the roof aerial and the aerial wire leading to the input at the side of the van.

I know of someone who has successfully done this and the result is the picture below.  To write it all down appears complicated, but in reality it is a really simple fix.

Our problem at the moment is that when Bailey made the van, they left the wire to the side of the van in an enclosed area behind the front speaker.  They sy it is easy to get out by removing the speaker and poking the wire through, but I can't budge the speaker cover so I'm leaving it to the service department.

When it's all done it should look like this..  (before and after).  N.B. The wire to the side of the caravan is missing at the moment on ours (It's stuck behind the cupboard) - normally its on input 3 (and has to be moved to aerial)
