Lunar Clubman SB family of 4? (layout conundrum)

Are you saying all new caravans suffer from damp?

If you use the last PC report the level of damp in new caravans is 12%. This is not very different from the clubs figure which I suspect is an older sample and therefore higher.

The PC figure three years back was 22% so things have improved or may be the worst offenders are no longer with us.

Ok, so we went to the NEC and was mind boggled to say the least! However, after looking at all layouts and features we settled on a Swift Celebration 590 (Sterling Eccles dealer special).

It’s got everything we need and more so we’re really pleased.

I beat the salesman down to a point where his boss had to intervene haha! But I was not shaking that hand until I had everything I wanted. So, in the end I had a fantastic deal on a lovely van and we are really looking forward to picking it up in February/March!

I see you  passed on the Lunar and although I dont have much faith in any UK vans I certainly wont be buying another Lunar. Our Clubman SB was bought new in 2012 and has had damp rectification every year since and just now repairs to multiple cracks around the front window. . Its a 6 year water ingress warranty not 10 and I dont know if we dare keep it after year 6 which is  unfortunate as in most respects we like it, comfort, ayout and towing and would keep it to the bitter end if we could be sure it would stay dry. 

I am afraid it is just pot luck whatever you buy and many Lunars give years of good service. Lunar appear to be average for faults so any other make could be a case of out of the frying pan but I do understand how it could put you off the make.

Sorry to hear that but no I had multiple issues with the same van last year! However I rejected that and got a refund. I've accepted the fact that sometimes you may end up with a lemon as I did but having researched all manufacturers (German including) it seems all produce lemons so it's not the case of one manufacturer over another. For me the swift won on a few points, family layout, price and features. The clubman is a lovely van but the swift ticks the right boxes.

I hope your Swift turns out to be as good as ours (also a dealer special bought in the year 2000) - still damp free after sixteen years.  Everything still works, original fridge, oven, heater, water system, wheels, and tyres.  We had a very early problem with a rogue Alko axle, but this was replaced to our complete satisfaction, with no disruption to our use of the van.  We've had two replacement shower trays (probably our fault in causing the damage - but one of these was under warranty and the other part-paid for) and I've recovered the seats and made new curtains.  We've also replaced the large front window which was damaged by road debris whilst on holiday in France, and covered by our insurance, and we've had a couple of other insurance claims, but otherwise it is 'as bought'.
