Hi everyone and thanks very much for taking the trouble to help me out its really appreciated. I was not really thinking about Carbon Monoxide just the LPG side of things from Bottles to Hob. As suggested I have looked both at the mini Pilot and Fire angel and can see they will both do the job well so that's great. I think I need to wait until we get the van and I can see how and where to fix this in and connect up.
One other thing which I find hard to believe actually. One of my pals believes I need to fit one that alerts to Ether or Soporific gas as well. The thought is that 'undesirables' will wait until you are asleep and then inject this gas into the van and when it puts you firmly out or comatose they break in and steal whatever they choose. Bit strange I know as anyone heard of this happening?

Hi Dellers. I'm afraid I can’t help with the gas leak detector other than to say you will need to place it at the lowest point of the space it is protecting. You will find your van will have gas drop holes in appropriate places and you may consider these adequate - along with the unintended gaps that the usual standard of build quality brings. 😀
I mentioned Fire Angel and ours is a combined CO detector and fire alarm. I think you're right in waiting until you get the van before making decisions as you should find a similar alarm already fitted.
Personally, I’d take no notice of your pal concerning the gassing. There have been reports of such events overseas but nothing has been substantiated. The comatose state is often attributed to local vino rather than gassing. It’s your choice, of course.
There is no PM facility on this forum but some of us put an email address in our profile which can be read by tapping that person's avatar. Failing that, all you can do is ask Rowena to pass your email address to the person you wish to contact.
Enjoy your van.

Hi Tinwheeler, thanks for the observation and suggestion. We have both on the boat cos there is no drain hole (!) hence the immediate thought to fit one to the new van. As you say might have one fitted already will check. I thought as much, probably one such report and all of a sudden it becomes 'true' everywhere and yes my solution has always been wine! Once I get the hang of the Forum I will find out how to add my email as you said, thanks for your help.

I think all that that stuff about being gassed in your van by undesirables is complete tosh. Anaesthetists train for many years to do that sort of stuff without killing people and I’m not aware of any motorhomers who have died in such circumstances. Pilot Mini LPG alarm has a remote sensor that can be fitted in an appropriate location, but that tends to be places where dust and/or damp accumulate so periodic replacement of the sensor may be necessary to prevent false alarms,

I also have not heard of an LPG monitor on a caravan or motorhome. The greatest risk area is the gas locker but that has ventilation at the bottom. A lot of the pipework is run under the vehicle which just leaves the risers to oven and hob so where would you put such a device?
With regard to the risk of being gassed by some anaesthetic (ether?), this has been much debated on this forum and is widely believed to be nonsense to the extent that the professional bodies have commented that it is impossible. Not sure what detector you would use anyway.
