Filling your Aquaroll

For many years now I have ceased using the rubber/clear tubed filler hose. Instead I cut a suitably sized piece of white rigid PVC pipe (as that used for draining away waste water from your washing machine ). ..About an inch down from the top of one end of said pipe, drill a hole right through from one side to the other side...Thread a shoelace through both holes and tie the ends together...At the site water tap, hold onto the shoe lace, drop the filling pipe down into the Aquaroll and present the other end over the water tap then before turning the tap on, wrap the shoe lace over the top of the tap and hold it in place with your hand..Proceed to fill with water..Job done ...The pipe will fit over every site water tap you are likely to find...Every time you have used it, wipe the exterior of it with a clean and previously unused sterlized wipe.

Let’s face it, caravanning is for people who are easily bored.

You can go to a Spanish hotel for two weeks and sit by the pool, slowly getting cancer, drinking yourself to death, hating the food and losing the will to live OR you can take the van (or Motorhome) away and when you get bored you fill the aquaroll, empty the waste, check the awning poles, light the BBQ. When that’s done you sit and think - perhaps there is a better way of filling the Aquaroll? ...and when you are sitting at home bored because you are not taking the van away this week you turn to Club Together and share your experiences.

What’s not to like?

Yep, made one of them donkeys years ago from some left over water pipe. Mine was in two telescopic pieces so was adjustable and collapsed for ease of packing in the van.

I'm amazed that people pay good money to buy them ready made, tbh.

I think the sterilising wipe is a bit OTT unless you’re going to keep it in a similarly sterilised container. How do you sterilise the inside of the pipe which is the bit in contact with the water? undecided

I sterilise the white PVC pipe.....When leaving your site don’t tip away unused fresh water from your Aquaroll , but add required amount of Milton or Puriclean and by holding the shoelace, drop the pipe into the container for half an hour..This not only ensures the pipe is clean but also ensures the Aquaroll itself is ready for use next outing.

All I need now is an Aquaroll laughinglaughinglaughing

Sorry, Scottie, I know you're trying to pass on useful tips but I do think some of it really is over the top. It’s so easy to become unnecessarily fanatical about such things.

As I suggested before, there’s no point in sterilising the equipment to then throw it in a van locker wrapped in an old carrier bag. Use of a shoelace is also optional - any cord will do.

We've been caravanning and motorhoming since the early 1970s and have worked out most of the tricks and haven't poisoned ourselves yet. Still, I’m sure newbies will be glad to read your tips. 👍🏻

You presume too much Tinwheeler, after a thorough cleaning I do not throw it into a gass locker.

I presumed nothing but simply made a point so there was no need to be defensive.

Time to drain the water now, methinks. smile

I wouldn't know. I'll have to ask my wife because she always does the Aquaroll! embarassed
