Hi everyone,

We know that often people come to Club Together to ask questions and/or share advice. In fact, the forum has been very useful to many and has become a valuable source of information. At the Club, we also have a fantastic team of Technical Advisors, who are there to offer help, advice and assistance to Club members. Kelly, has been contributing on Club Together since the forum launched in 2012. We also have Eileen, Nigel and David from the Technical Team and they are all going to be contributing on the community from time to time to offer their advice and also post about any common questions that have been coming through from members or any topical subjects that might be of interest to our forum members. If there’s any subject you would like the Club’s technical team to discuss or advise on please let us know.

Surely that is what the 'ask the expert' part is for?  People pose a technical or other hobby related they consider technical there only for the mods to move it. Once moved, or even before, fellow CTers have responded. It's rare to see staff posts these days 😲.  Observation not criticism just saying 😉

Presumably they have, or are intending to update the mass of technical information on the clubs website.

On a number of occasions it has been shown to be out of date and even not appropriate to put it mildly.

Rowena, that's a good post by Bakers2.

Ask The Expert is dead in the water. It's rarely used for its intended purpose and, due to inadequate explanation, is misunderstood by many.

Perhaps it's time to consider either giving it a revamp by letting technical questions be asked there, or giving it the heave-ho altogether.

That is not what the Ask the Expert section is for. It was designed in order to let members ask questions of a nominated industry expert on a specific subject over a specified time frame not general questions which will be moved as soon as they are seen. There are clear instructions on how that section should operate but perhaps understandable that people see the section title and fire away. It would be helpful if the name was changed and perhaps moved further down the listing if the intention is to continue with it which seems in doubt as we have not had any sessions recently?

It would be good that the technical experts watched the forum and added information into threads that required it. Not suggesting that they comment on every thread but where their knowledge would be useful. One area where we are currently lacking expert/knowledgeable input is in the UK Sites and Touring section where a timely intervention by someone representing that department could cut out a lot of misinformation and rumour!

I would imagine that any such questions would have answered many times over before any of the CC staff even saw the question. innocent

This may be seen as controversial but I'll post it anyway.

As a part of my job role I was part of a 4 man team from different departments who were the company technical support team. this required that I was fully up to speed with current equipment and vehicles we operated at the time. This meant attending vehicle and component manufactures product and familiarization courses some of which were licensed and accredited by the relevant bodies and attending trade shows etc to maintain the level competence and current knowledge and understanding required to do the job.

This also extended to the legal requirements to comply with the law and regulations that applied to our business.

Is this the case within the clubs technical team ? .

I must say in the time I have participated on this forum I have never seen this "Ask the Expert" section being used and as already stated most of the questions raised have been answered by either someone who had/has a background in the subject being discussed or someone with  personal or practical experience of the issue or subject.

I would agree with Milothedog.

Can we please know what expertise/qualifications/experience the technical team have?

I remember a recent occurrence where a question, from a forum member, was answer by a member of CMC staff who gave the wrong information and just confused the situation.

For whatever the Ask the Expert section was intended it does not work but does confuse people; it should be dumped.  In my view it would be helpful if the technical experts were to comment on technical questions, even if they simply direct the readers to an appropriate link.

We are of one mind, DD.

The section serves no useful purpose in its current form.
