'Your Stories' needs editorial control

The 'Your Stories' section attracts some interesting, informative and amuusing tales: it also attracts misplaced reviews and complaints. Unfortunately, it's also vulnerable to unedited 'copy and paste' stories from contributors own sites. Again in a new story, a contributor uses the word s**t and its derivatives - it's a common feature of his past stories - and no one seems to notice or complain. Again, he has used a vile expression which we have to assume he thinks is smart or funny. A moderator expunged it from a previous 'story'

A case could be made for contributions to be submitted for publication before posting - that would be a bit tedious, and who would do it?

Have a look for the offending phrase. is it suitable for use in this forum?

I've complained to the Community Manager, but I guess he's busy right now plugging holes and mending fuses!

Ok, I thought it better to be brief with the option to go to more detail if required as per most of my other lengthy blogs. It also means I can make corrections if I notice anything wrong or even add an update note.

Just looked in on the stories section again, its becoming more of a place to review or moan than write a proper story of interest that all can enjoy.Yell

I realise its hard to keep tabs on constantly, but can something be done about this please? It's starting to put me off looking at the stories section....Thanks in anticipation.....Cool

I agree with you, Brian. Suggest that the difference between 'review' and 'story' is -

a review comments on a site and facilities, and any difficulties that may be encountered, or things to especially recommend said site

a story tells of ones travels from a site and what can be done/seen in the surrounding area. OK this might be covered in the site synopsis but we all find new things to do and see and may give other folk ideas on what to do in an area

Its interesting that there is no report button for stories as I would have thought this would be an easy way to bring non-stories to the attention of forum admin. I am reluctant to delete stories without first giving the poster the opportunity to repost in the correct place but it seems no one ever comes back to look at any comments. Oh for a PM system!!

Last year I emailed Rowena after reading a story which had quite a few swearwords in it.  I'm not a prude and I do like a laugh and a joke, but I don't think the use of the word b*****y, in many sentences, is necessary to write a story.  I suggested to Rowena that a report button for stories, the same as for posts, might be useful.  Her reply was that the words had been edited out, and it was a useful suggestion and she would pass it on the IT team.

Seems nothing has happened (yet?).

There are nearly 50 posts in this thread all saying more or less the same thing and yet we never seem to get a definitive answer to the questions asked? We don't even know if the Story Section will be subject to any upgrades during the supposed Forum upgrade, we will have to wait and see.

I've decided not to waste my time and post anymore stories.  This latest continental trip will stay within my memory only

That is a shame Oneputt as it sounds a very interesting trip. Mind you I spend hours putting together stories and adding photos and I have no idea how many people bother to read them, apart from BrueLaughing so whether I am wasting my time I don't know. Even the Meeks must wonder if all their efforts are worthwhile? I suppose with overseas travel outside of France and Spain there will always be a much more limited potential audience anyway.

Keep the stories coming...I hope I'm not the only reader Happy I have to say they vary a lot both in content (and lack of!) But it's the one place where anyone can contribute, add a few pics and be themselves without too many adverse comments or advice. The Meeks are putting on a long series of posts just now about travels across parts of N Europe. Although it would be my idea of a nightmare to do so much driving in such a short space of time at least the site descriptions might be useful to some. The good thing about the rest of us without any commercial backing is that we can probably be more honest and can choose our stories at random. So keep posting!
