Posted on 05/05/2017 20:56 by TakethedogalongYou mean like me then Ian? Had to take on caring for two seriously ill elderly people, then finding out OH is seriously ill and in need of constant care? Whoops, awfully sorry but I just can't be around as much as I would love to be, giving up something I have loved for past twelve years!
No, they haven't got rid of me, they have told me to take all the time I need, come back and do what I can, when I can. Past commitment rewarded, empathy shown. Much as I did when I managed volunteers as well as staff. A well managed environment values its volunteers, and doesn't forget what they have done in the past.

Posted on 05/05/2017 20:56 by DianneTI am still here mostly try to help with questions etc in the European Section but now on an 8 week holiday in Germany and Austria.
On the other hand the Forum has quietend down a lot and not so much to do. I am on the Forum 2/3 times a day but do not post every time only when I see something I can help with.

Not sure about this idea getting to people to resign (which to me is repugnant to even suggest that to a volunteer) and getting replacements. Is there a limit of the number of mods there can be at one time? Does someone have to be removed before another can be appointed? I can't see how as there are not paid positions. If there is more work to be done (which I don't think there is as the current mods seen or unseen do a great job) then simply appoint more unpaid volunteers? Why insult someone who has done a great job by asking for their resignation?
My OH is high up in the Girl Guides and manages/has managed volunteers for many years. When someone has other concerns, like family illness or more pressing issues, you don't fire or ask them to resign, you simply reduce their workload and act with a bit of compassion.

Posted on 05/05/2017 21:23 by TinwheelerThat's a very good point, Dianne. Just because you and other mods don't post doesn't mean you're not keeping a watchful eye on things. People are jumping to conclusions simply because mods need now only keep a low profile.
