Time& Speed of linking to CT

FOR ROWENA:

Hi Rowena, can you please ask the CC web team if they have considered moving CT out of the CC domain and setting up a separate CT domain, to improve access and use?     This would remove many layers of linking which is making this site so tardy.    They are clearly not having any success in finding a solution to the current speed/access problem.

Got to say, I have no problem with speed. It’s pretty similar to every other site (and there are many) I use. I’m with Virgin and regularly get a download speed of over 70mbps. Just tested whilst writing this, and it’s 77.

I have a much lower speed, and maybe because of that, I find this site the slowest of any that I use.

I have a high speed fibre connection and I often find access to the forum painfully slow. Interestingly it seems only to be the forum and not the main booking site.

The OP may or may not be aware that several of us have called for Club Together to be run as a separate entity using off the shelf specialist forum software. The reason for not doing so was that the Club wanted an integrated website. However that thought has surely been completely blown out the water by the adoption of the likes of Facebook as a key point for member contact?

I too have a high speed internet connection and can confirm that this forum is the slowest to link to of any site I use. Coupled to the fact that I also have to sign in each time makes it a chore to use.

I have looked at the FB account and it is seriously under used as far as I can see and therefore not worth bothering with.

We do need proper software for this forum, there is no valid excuse for not providing it.

Practical Caravan use commercial software for their forum and that works as it should.

Yes this is the slowest of all forums I have come across. Of course as we all know the forum is based on a flawed idea.  Bolting the in house produced forum software  on to the main site was never going to work properly.

I can see this forum closing down in favour of the CMC facebook alternative for two reasons. 1 - It would cost far too much money to set up a proper commercial forum just for about 20 to 30  regular contributers and 2 - The CMC Facebook alternative runs quite seamlessly without any technical input from the CMC IT dept.

At the end of the day ,I would rather the club spend money on the site network than a forum that only a small percentage of the membership use....................

Sometimes it's slow, sometimes not, but it does have a character of it's own not found on off the shelf sites. smile
