Things haven't changed much after all!

Oh dear, having been away for quite a while and just recently come back, I was hoping that CT would have settled down a bit, and become a much happier place.

But no, its still populated by several who just love to argue. It dosen't matter what about, lets just be as arguementataive as possible score points, and try to belittle any one who you don't agree with.

Sadly several of the relatively new contributors are giving distinct signs of being the new trolls that I thought we might have got to go away.

Luckily being one of the old ***s I have been there before and my T shirt is quite worn out, so I'm not too worried about what abuse any of you want to chuck this way. But I will say this.

I have been a member of this club since the very early days, and I consider CT to be a very positive factor in the clubs continued success.  But the constant arguements and the attempts to put others down is not the way to hold any debate. The ability to put your point forward without rancour, sarcasm or sheer abuse is the mark of a proper well balanced person.  That does not require a private education or anything like that,  spelling is not the ultimate test I know that mine can let me down sometimes. I was a product of the secondary modern system but even I can appreciate the need to put an argement forward constructively.

Common Guys lets keep CT on the right track. Keep the lid on it!

I dont know why those five or so members insist in having a joint go at individual members. Personal insults against individual members by groups is unacceptable on any forum. The group also seem to be obsessed by Enid Blyton characters.  ------------With whats happening in the world I worry about the mindset of the five or so members whose only interest is Enid Blyton . Happy

Famous  Five : Julian,  Dick,  George, Anne & Timmy Tongue OutLaughing

Oh, that's who they are, and I thought the term was a euphonism for those who hold a different opinion to the odd one or two!

I think the last few pages amply illustrate what I was saying in my original Post.  Sadly some will never learn the sheer futility of what they are about!

Just to be clear, some years ago I called a group of people posting on here the famous five.  I won't be naming them but some no longer post here.  No further comment necessary

That's interesting OP, you coined the phrase originally then the 'famous five' hijacked your phrase eh?,LaughingLaughing

TF, your original post at the head of this thread has proved very prophetic, it proves the point that posters like you should never give up, you should continue the crusade to bring sanity to CT, to be the conscience of other less respectful individuals. Your input is sound guidance for the future of this Forum. Power to your posts.

The previous. Group of 5 which Oneput named "the famous five"  almost destroyed this forum. They worked together to shut up any individual whose opinions were not in line with their own by personally attacking the poster instead of the post. They were also described as" theClique."

Sadly we are seeing a resurgence of this practice by a group of five sometimes six who it seem to think that anybody who posts not in accordance with their collective opinion is deserving of personal insults.

Having respect for all posters is what makes for a good forum.  We dont have to agree but IMO but surely we can disagree in an adult and respectful way.

K, your last paragraph echoes the views of my earlier post on page five.Cool

With regard to these members who you say make “personal Insults”, Bugs has already advised that anyone breaking the Community Guidelines should be reported to the CM.

That way we can all enjoy the forum in a friendly respectful manner as you rightly posted.Smile
