I’ve been looking at the use of the forum over the first week of this year and compared it with the same week (1-7 Jan) last year.

It had become apparent that the amount of activity had declined and I wondered by how much.

In the first week of 2015, 794 different usernames were observed on CT. (There were a lot of kitchen spammers at the time, so they were removed from the count).

This year, there were 691 different usernames observed over the same period.

The number actually posting to the forum was 388, dropping to 356 this year, a fall of around 10%.

An average of 260 different users were seen on CT each day in 2015 whereas only 235 different users a day are seen just now.

TDA, very true, but that forum seems to pick and choose their members . i was refused entry ,but hey ho there is life other than forumsHappy

That isn't how it works HD, with all due respect. It is well managed, and has the kind of filter systems that hopefully will be available on here in the future. It is much smaller of course, it is only a year old, but new members  join almost every day, some only post very rarely, others post daily.

Brue, I agree with you, lovely to see lots of newish posters using CT. Just hope their early posts are not pounced on too quickly and that they get the help and interest they deserve.Happy

TDA, all i can tell you is what happened to me , i filled in the joining form with my forum name "Huskydog" and E-Mail address ,and submitted it ,then a few moments later a box appered telling me i had been banned and my ISP address had been locked

Maybe i should try again!!!!!

I think the drop out rate of posters and posts has been discussed previously, and perhaps recall someone from HQ explaining that CT isn't getting quite the high profile it enjoyed earlier, as the new forum is fairly imminent. There do seem to be a lot of new and newish posters around though at the moment, even if only asking specific questions, and this has to be good. no doubt much more emphasis will be placed on encouraging members to take part once the new forum has been developed.

I think that the naughty step may have something to do with it huskySurprised I have been accepted but my membership was never  activated, thus not allowing me to post Undecided . Still I'm happy with the forums I use.....Cool

Did you include all the user names in the review section Rogher or is that just in the discussion area?

During the two separate weeks, I observed a total of 1239* different users on CT.

192 of them were present in both weeks (Regulars?).

602 present in 2015 were not present in the same week 2016 (Leavers?)

499 users were seen in 2016 that were not in 2015 (Joiners?).

*Note that these are all types of CT user. About a third do not use the forum, and one fifth only express a “Like” for things (do not comment). There will be many more “Lurkers” who visit to view without leaving a mark.

I can't comment on the software used by forums I am afraid, as that kind of technology is way beyond me, but all I know is that the forum I use just allowed me to input my details, respond to understanding the very clear guidance, and accept that I would adhere to what was expected of me. This included the very reasonable, nothing defamatory, nothing politically or religiously sensitive ideal, respect for views of others etc..... It is not affiliated to any club, so the link to fees paid isn't there, so I think if anyone did give cause for concern, and be prevented from posting it would be a one card and that's it ban. No if's, no but's, no return after a period of suspension, no trying to use an alternative online identity. It is good, it appears to work well. Happy
