CT usage statistics

I’ve been looking at the use of the forum over the first week of this year and compared it with the same week (1-7 Jan) last year.

It had become apparent that the amount of activity had declined and I wondered by how much.

In the first week of 2015, 794 different usernames were observed on CT. (There were a lot of kitchen spammers at the time, so they were removed from the count).

This year, there were 691 different usernames observed over the same period.

The number actually posting to the forum was 388, dropping to 356 this year, a fall of around 10%.

An average of 260 different users were seen on CT each day in 2015 whereas only 235 different users a day are seen just now.

K, to take part in the survey, anyone could volunteer. It may have also been shelved because they had found out all they needed to know.Wink

The CC has every members Email address and it would be a simple matter to send regular questionaires to all members.  Also send CC information.   No cost involved, easy to do and all inclusive.

Cool

I noticed some activity on here, so just took a ‘peek’ to see what’s going on.

It’s a bit ‘picky’ but the Club does not have everyone’s e-mail, K. An internet identity is not (yet) a requirement for membership and some may not wish to provide an e-mail. You are required to provide an e-mail address to join CT, as part of the enrolment process, but there’s nothing to stop someone using a temporary one.

An interesting statistic would be how many different members have posted on CT in a year, I suspect that is more than most realise?

I estimate there being around 10,000 different ‘active users’ on CT a year. An ‘active user’ is one who ‘liked’ or contributed in some way. There will be many others who simply pass by (I’d guess up to 10 times as many). We know that the rate of new registrations is high because we keep being told how the number is growing.

It’s difficult to define a ‘regular user’, but I reckon there are around 500 on CT. They may only be a very small proportion of the membership but are not without opinion and must have some relevance, although not representative.

Thank you Rogher, that is more than I thought. I guess with the software you have, you are in the best position to come up with a good estimate. The only ones who can a provide better answer will be the Club.

But we know we’re unlikely to get a meaningful response because we’ve asked before. Like so many things, the only way is to do it yourself.

Why is the pool of contributors of CT 'not representative'? They are a random group of the main membership so why would they not be representative? Are CT posters drawn from a particular sector of the membership?

CT cannot be repesentative, by it's very nature, as it's an on-line forum, and there will certainly be members of the CC who do not use a computer, small numbers though they may be.

I believe that some members have an axe to grind, others spend more than a ‘healthy’ amount of time on here and, all-in-all are surely not a true random sample. So that’s why I said “not representative.” Perhaps I should’ve said “not entirely representative.”

Yesterday, I saw 130 different user names on the forum. Between them there were 12 new discussions started, 342 additional comments made, and 192 likes. 110 active discussions in total.

Four weeks ago, I saw 154 different user names, who started 22 new discussions and made 477 comments with 301 likes. 181 active discussions in total.

Only a snapshot, of course, but it does suggest a decline.
