CT usage statistics

I’ve been looking at the use of the forum over the first week of this year and compared it with the same week (1-7 Jan) last year.

It had become apparent that the amount of activity had declined and I wondered by how much.

In the first week of 2015, 794 different usernames were observed on CT. (There were a lot of kitchen spammers at the time, so they were removed from the count).

This year, there were 691 different usernames observed over the same period.

The number actually posting to the forum was 388, dropping to 356 this year, a fall of around 10%.

An average of 260 different users were seen on CT each day in 2015 whereas only 235 different users a day are seen just now.

First quarter of 2016 was the projected time for the forum update. I would prefer just to see the date when individuals joined, the star system worked at first but it would have been better to have had a limit.

CT activity by day is, perhaps less remarkable:

Mon

#######################

Tue

#################

Wed

##################

Thu

###############

Fri

################

Sat

###############

Sun

###################

(avoiding stars, this time)

Of possible interest is that Fri/Sat is comparatively quiet compared to Sun/Mon.

As see this as....

Thurs..busy getting ready to go away for the weekend

Fri/Sat..away in the van so not alway having WiFi available

Sun/Mon..back home & catching up with what's been happening over the weekend.

I'm a one star rated motorhomer. I look in most days and will post to help someone. I've only asked for advice a few times and these were all related to CC issues, not motorhome issues. I just find other motorhome sites easier to use. At present, trying to edit a post with no automatic typo check, some strange behaviours when I try and highlight text for deletion, and the cumbersome actual edit process discourages me. Other forums use 'off the shelf' software which works fine.

I think the star system has some limited value, and may encourage earlier poster to 'get into' CT.  Those of us who have been on CT for ages hardly notice it.  It would be better if it was possible to reach the point where you are at the top of the star system very much earlier on in the process.

On the subject of the 'new forum', it is my understanding that the timescale was the first quarter of 2016.  It would be good to have some indication as to what to expect and an indication of whether the original posts/ stories would be transferred.  I am more concerned about retaining some of the stories - I know some folk have put more time to creating the stories - I know I have.  I am reluctant to spend any more time submitting stories until I know if they are going to be retained.
