I bought a Morphy Richards one last spring, cost £25 on special offer. Couldn't /wouldn't justify the cost of a Remorska.

I'm  glad i gave it a try, very impressed with it. So much so, that i bought another one for the house. It grills, braise, fry, stir fry, steam, fast stew and slow cooks. It is 1500w and I've used it fine on 6 amp sites, used it all the time last year when away for 10 weeks. Much better control than the electric fry pan i previously had and its deeper.

Our  Remoska has seen better days too and although it hasn't died yet we have bought a Vonshef 19 litre mini oven in anticipation. Its 1400 watt but should be ok most places. We have tested it out at home with baking pizza and its big enough to get a chicken in. Many of our friends have similar ovens and they seem to do everything the Remoska does.

Lakeland now only has a three year guarantee, but when you bought your Remoska it was probably still a lifetime guarantee (the product, not you). I know you may not have proof of purchase, but it may be worth phoning them.

As we are in Portugal, I have emailed Lakeland  and this is their reply:

"Lakeland has always operated a satisfaction guarantee which means the customer knows how much they paid for an item, how long they've had it and if it's given them value for money, if they feel it has, we would respectfully request that a new one is purchased.

If you don't feel that your Remoska has given you good value you can, on your return to the UK, take it to your nearest store with your receipt (or proof of purchase) where we will refund you for the last selling price of this product.

Were unable to replace the Remoska as the new model is manufactured in different way and is now more expensive to purchase.

If your unable to provide any proof or purchase we will give you the cost in store of the last selling price, which can be used against another Lakeland product.

To make things easier for our customers going forward we now guarantee all of our products for three years."

That sounds jolly fair to me.

However, in all honesty, I cannot say that we can claim we are not satisfied. And, if I am even more honest, the demise of ours has been somewhat hastened by one of us dropping the lid this week, causing the handle (where the electric bit is) to split.

Buying a new one is the only decent thing to do... unless I can find an alternative.

Snap! We've had one for some years, & often use it at home as well as the caravan, as it uses less power than an oven. We've not dropped ours, but the switch is getting unreliable which is worrying. So we're looking for a replacement / alternative too. Watching this thread with interest, thanks for posting!

After a bit of Google searching, we bought our Remoska direct from Czechoslovakia. At far less than Lakeland charge. They are available in a small range of alternative colours too. All we needed to do, on receipt, was to cut off the European plug and fit a UK one.

You can, of course, purchase small, mini ovens in Portugal but they may not be as versatile as a mini cooker as it may well not Braise or Steam as well. Just check out the home ware section of the local Hypermarket.

Is that what is termed a "multi cooker"? An "intellichef 9"? A quick check on-line is giving a price of £82. That's well on the way to replacing the Remoska. Your £25 sounds excellent value, if it's the same thing.

Mine is a  Multi cooker 562020, RRP £79 but you can get them on ebay around £69. Couldn't believe it when i saw them in The Original Factory shop last year for £25. I phoned my sister from France to go and get me another one once I'd  decided it was just what i wanted, she said there was only 2 left when she went in.

The heat comes from an element in the base by the way not from above.
