Hi all,

has anyone got/able to post any pictures they may have of their old caravans.

As I said in my introduction post we have had a long break from caravan ownership. over 25 years,  and would love to see some pictures of your caravans from that era. I intend to dig all our old photo's out from our loft over the next 2 weeks and if I find any of our previous caravans I'll scan and try and post them.

Our first one was a very old and heavy Eccles ( Moonstone  i think) with bay front window. We then had a 5 berth Lunar Clubman that had very deep front and rear windows so you could see through it in the mirror when towing.

Thanks and look forward seeing what you had back then.

Ian.

Yes I remember the reversing clip and the Scott stabiliser. The gaslights with the particular smell they gave off, glass and metal windows (not double glazed) which ran with condensation in the mornings, poor brakes on the van and incorrect car/van weight ratio. We put our lives at risk every time we hitched up, but 'we were happy'. They were certainly carefree days, if not so safe and I would not want to go back to the caravan standards of those days.

The old Eccles hitched to our Hillman Hunter was so heavy it cooked the auto box oil on our first encounter of a long slow incline. I overcame this by going to a breakers yard (remember those?) and found a transmission oil cooler on an old Yank that I fitted to the Hillman. Never had the problem againCool
