Clean Air Greater Manchester

Greater Manchester (GM) is taking action to improve air quality on local roads – now and for future generations.

All ten local authorities have worked together to develop the Greater Manchester Clean Air Plan. This will help bring nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels on local roads within legal limits by 2024. The final Clean Air Plan has now been approved by the councils, following a public consultation and further development work.

It includes a Greater Manchester-wide Clean Air Zone, which is anticipated to launch on 30 May 2022. More than £120m in government funding will also be available to support eligible Greater Manchester businesses, people and organisations to move to cleaner vehicles before the Zone is introduced.

The Club will be making a representation on behalf of members, however, if members themselves want to get involved the more input the better.

Please visit Clean Air Greater Manchester for more information and please also share with anyone who might be interested, or visit the consultation here: https://cleanairgm.com/consultation

It could be argued that motorhomes, being non essential and being used purely for leisure, should be charged more than similar sized vehicles carrying out essential journeys.

It seems flawed to me if no account is taken of how far you are driving within the zone.

From what I have read, you can drive around all day, causing a lot of pollution, and pay £10 for the day,  but if the same vehicle travels only a couple of miles, for example to exit the zone, it will still cost £10.

Have I read that correctly?

I think the general idea is to keep you, or one, out in the first place?

Also why would one do just that, a few miles I mean? In that were truly the case it would pay  to park outside the zone and walk or bus those few miles?

Or drive in to get your MH serviced at possibly  £60 to take it in and another £60 to go and collect it.Or even to use the club  site at Burrs Parkwink

Or perhaps get your MH serviced somewhere else. I would certainly not pay an £120 extra to  get it serviced. Yes sad for the dealer but if it saves one life it will be worth it.

Can I ask when you will be buying your electric vehicle to help save the planet?

So long as its someone else loosing their job or paying the tax "I'm all right Jack"

It could be equally suggested you have that attitude to lives that are lost to pollution issues to save money-it works both ways. It’s serious & planet wide & needs addressing🤷🏻‍♂️☹️

On my list HD, probably about a year, but remember I'm not the one complaining about this new initiative. It won't affect me but I support it as I will support any in my area.

Anyway more about quality of life than saving the planet in my view.

Are you getting one HD? and how's the motorhome?

As I said I support it and will support any in my area. Newcastle is currently discussing it. If it happens I'll gladly take the bus, or more likely train from the station 5 minutes away and be in the centre in 10 minutes from then. I can actually cycle in faster (in time) than cars at rush hour.

And what tax?

But surely isn't someone's and their families heath and quality of life far more important than jobs or your 'tax'
