Changing pitches after first night

We are staying on CMC site and am seeing something I’ve not come across before - at least not in such numbers: people have arrived yesterday and gone onto a pitch but this morning are moving to different pitch! Is this peculiar to this site - Black Knowl -  or does it happen a lot and I’ve not noticed before.  Can’t quite grasp why they didn’t settle on the initial choice or if they think they will get more choice today arrive a day later & save a pitch fee.

I'm currently on a tour of the UK in a motorhome, stayed at around 16 CAMC sites so far and this happens alot, I do it quite a bit myself if needed for example, if you arrive at 4/5pm you usually get the dog eared pitches of mud or puddles! Or next to the main road for example, so when everyone vacates in a morning by 12pm you have an hour to move, just the way it goes, although it doesnt half confuse (some) of the staff, most Id say 98% just ask you to swap your barrier fob once moved, but just now Ive been told in no uncertain terms its against club rules!? Apparently you cant just move without telling them first, bearing in mind the offices don't open until 1pm for when the newbies arrive! Seems some staff are just pedantic and most dont see an issue 🤣🤣🤣

I've moved pitch a few times, but rarely. Oddly, however, I did change pitch twice during a four site twenty-eight day trip in February and March this year, whilst work was done on my house. This was just coincidental circumstances to change twice in four bookings.

I have always asked the site managers permission to move first whenever I have done so. I did not know it was a rule, but it just seemed pretty obvious to me that you should do so. It is a matter of common courtesy at least, if for no other reason.

Having written that, I recall that, on the aforementioned trip, at Chapel Lane, I was told that I needn't have asked and moreover the site manager opined, with a smile, that I could move to a different pitch every day if I wanted as long as I kept them informed as to which pitch I was on. Mind you, the site was very quiet!

Even so, I would always ask first and, to be honest, I find it rather disappointing that you should find an instruction to always ask first as pedantic and worse that you attach to it emojis of tearful laughter. Isn't it a matter of respect?

I can't see any reference to moving like you describe within the club rules so I would write in to the club for clarification. Also while the offices are shut now usually after 10 in my experience there's alway a warden about somewhere unless it's a very small one set warden site and then catch them as they walk back after cleaning.

I've done it as well once or twice usually only on a longish stay and have always asked before.

I don't think it is the right to move, it is the need to ask first that the site manager in question said was a rule. I don't know that's a rule either, but it seems to me to be an obvious requirement and a well-mannered thing to do.

Moreover, as you rightly state, there is always a site manager available somewhere. So, referring back again to Jon's post, it is quite ridiculous to imply that there is no opportunity to ask. In any case, there are usually many pitches freed up well before 12 noon, so to suggest you only have an hour to move is also quite wrong. When I have moved pitch, I have always done so well before 12 noon.

We, for personal reasons, preferred not to use our onboard facilities and always used the shower block, so therefore we liked to be reasonably near it. We also liked a sunny pitch. As we used to stop on one site for at least a week, possibly more, then if we were dissatisfied with the only pitch that was left for us when we arrived, we would change pitches the next day before erecting the awning. Club sites aren’t cheap so why not be where it is convenient for you.

Yes didn't express myself well. I meant I couldn't find any reference to that rule about asking first.

I would assume that people who move, do this because the pitch or area they want is not available when they arrive and move if a pitch they like better becomes free. Far too much bother for us, but as long as they and the wardens are happy who cares.

Exactly that.

Often we will turn up on site late afternoon knowing that if we  can only get a location or pitch we don't like we can just move the next morning.

There is not a rule but it would be good mannersto ask beforehand. as some pitches especially close to the facilities may be requested  by those arriving who have restricted mobility

And those sites with barrier cards will normally. be numbered with the pitch you were first on and wiil need to be swapped

Of course I never suggested otherwise, but it was a warden who did.

We've done it a few times, if we arrive later in the day and what's left isn't to our liking, I go and ask the warden what pitches will vacate the next day.

We then go and have a look and chose one we would like. Go back to the warden and clear it with them.

We prefer pitches in the sun, not to near the facilities, not near entrance or exit, usually find a quiet corner somewhere. As said we pay enough why not have a pitch which suits.

I was informed on arrival at Grange over Sands by the wardens once that better/larger pitches would become available the next day.....

Suited us to move as we had +2 with us & welcomed a little more space.

Don't see what the issue is!
