Had a very sad morning today , said goodbye to our cross terrier Fred , he was nearly 16 years old , arranged a visit this morning for our Vet to do what we always said we would do when the time was right .

He was deaf , his eyesight was poor and had medication for digestion problems .

He had his last caravan holiday last week in East Sussex .

Fred had been our caravaning , camping , canoeing , fishing mate , we will miss him greatly .Sad

Well a new day very quiet in the house , nobody whining for the bacon being cooked .

Fill more comfortable today that we did the right thing .

Thanks again  campers for your kind words .

Wye, you really did do the right thing, you were unselfish. The selfish thing would be to allow the pain to continue to put off your pain, we all know that is not a Dog lovers actions. You acted out of love & caring, never lose sight of that fact.

Sixteen for any dog is a grand old age, some of it will have been healthy genes, but a lot of it will be the care, training and love that you invested in Fred. It takes a brave owner to do what we all have to do, but we do it out of love and kindness, and I for one think they know this. Good to have a nice vet as well, not that I have ever come across one that wasn't nice!Happy

So sorry to hear your sad news. We've been there, too, you know you've done the right thing, but the emptiness is awful.

Thoughts are with you.

My old friend Jack is watching us from the hill. I guess I'm lucky to have that. I think of him every day, and I see where he rests. I also see his impish looks and ways in my new best friends. Life goes on, and that is the way Jack lived. So must I.

Be happy and glad to have known them, than to be sad that they have gone.

So sorry to hear this. Been there too often over the years. I still see our old pony in the mist some mornings, they stay in your heart forever.

Hi Wye,

Part of you has gone forever but Fred is still there Somewhere. Everyone was so kind on here when we lost Drumstick, and I am so pleased to see that that understanding is still here for you. Horrid horrid thing; losing your pal. I still miss all of my pets (years have passed; many dogs in the mix) but remembering them and their quirky personalities makes me smile.

i suspect, if you could bring Fred back you would do anything but alas you can't. Just try to remember him as a vibrant little character that you had the luck to know.

I do hope you get over your loss soon xxx

Wye,

I really feel for you. its almost 10 years since I took my lovely Golden Retreiver "Harvey" to the vet for the last time.  The worst thing is that I'm sure that he knew what I was doing.

As I said its now almost 10 years, but theres still hardly a day that I don't think of the stupid mutt!

I would love another companion like that but the DCOS won't agree. She says that at my age I'm too old to have another dog.  But Harvey & me don't agree.
