Had a very sad morning today , said goodbye to our cross terrier Fred , he was nearly 16 years old , arranged a visit this morning for our Vet to do what we always said we would do when the time was right .

He was deaf , his eyesight was poor and had medication for digestion problems .

He had his last caravan holiday last week in East Sussex .

Fred had been our caravaning , camping , canoeing , fishing mate , we will miss him greatly .Sad

Such sad news, Wye; always a difficult time but you know in your heart of hearts that it's the right thing to do and you'll always have the memories of your times with Fred. We'll be thinking of you.

Such sad news Wye our thoughts are with you. Our dog is only 2 and has just been diagnosed with Lymphoma. We are devastated so know exactly how you feel.

So sorry. It's six months since we had our lovely Poppy put to sleep. She is still a huge miss but it does get easier. For me, it's been harder when we've been away in the caravan, holidays will never be quite the same again.

Very sad news you will always remember the good and bad times  that you had with Fred. Over the last fifty years we have had dogs when that day comes it is the hardest thing you  have to do but you now it is the right decision they cannot tell you how they feel. After the last friend I had to say goodbye to I said we would not go through that again. As long as you have memories you will never forget.

So sorry about your sad loss, Wye.

Losing such a close friend and member of your family is painful and, as others have said, only time will ease the pain. Eventually your memories of Fred will bring a smile your face, rather than tears.

When we all read sorrowful posts like yours wye we share your sorrow. It's not just sympathy it's empathy, we can feel the raw grief, the constant welling up of sorrow. Some find it hard to believe that Humans can literally love another species. We can & we do. That is why we'll all be reading your sad news & harking back to our own similar losses, that doesn't take away any of your pain but it does let you know you are not suffering alone.

I’m very sorry to hear of your loss wye. We had to make the same decision in May last year and know how bad you must be feeling right now. I hope that sharing your grief with other members on here will help to ease the pain and that you remember all the good times you had with Fred.
