It looks as if we have a poorly dog today.  Completely off food and is passing blood in stools.  We're quite worried about her at the moment but have booked Lizzie in for the vet this afternoon.  Frown

So pleased for you all David & little Lizzie, we are taking ours on Thursday to the vet she has a lump in the side of her neck that started off tiny now a lot bigger Sad it doesn't seem to bother her though, but it's bothering us

Set back with Lizzie today.  Back to square one - same problem as last week.  Took her along to the vet again with stool sample (yuk! yuk!).  The vet has sent it off for testing together with bloods.  He has given her a couple of antibiotic injections and some special canned food to eat - she must eat nothing else.  He suspects colitis or pancreatitis.  I guess the worst scenario is the big 'C', but we'll know more when the test results are through.

It's a really worrying time.

Sorry to hear about yours Ruby.

I'll keep you all posted.

Hope she is doing better now David. Bramble was like this before christmas and they thought he had pancreatitus but it cleared up with the low fat food and he's been ok since. I did go online and check the foods and realised that some were really poor quality especially if made abroad. He's now on Natures Harvest (which has traceable meat) or home cooked vegetables and meat.

Hope she feels better soon x

Well, a few days on and she seems much better again.  The vet put her on I.D. canned food, which she seems to like.  We are now down to the last couple of cans, so after speaking with the vet, we have put her on a mixture of the canned and dried I.D.

The test results confirm pancreatitis, but everything else seems clear.   Hopefully it will clear up now, but I guess we will always have to keep an eye out for re-occurrence.  She likes the I.D. food so might keep her on it.

......also, her coat is really poor at the moment - abnormal moulting!  The vet said that when a dog is ill, her 'system' puts all the effort into 'supporting' the bit that's ill, and the first thing they shut down on is the skin and coat.  He is convinced that once the pancreatitis is under control, the coat will recover, but when she has had a couple of 'clear weeks' he will start to help her recover her coat.

Ah glad Lizzie is feeling much better and at least you now have confirmation of whats causing her illness and you can work on that.
