indeed Mr tinwheeler. I have even had pet shop owners offering a treat without even asking me. Unbelievable.

Couldn't have been me ,as I always ask the dog's owner if it's OK to give their dog a biscuit ,incase their dog has a food allergy ............

yes that as well and good for you but from my point of view I don't want my "working" dog to think that anyone else can provide what I provide.

This is one of the reasons I would probably never attend a 'meet'. I would like to be fairly relaxed with others but my dog is also part of my life and she is quite affectionate towards people if I allowed it, so being on edge would be a damn good reason for me not to go.

Absolutely right Tinny, this isn't an anti dog post it's about asking a tiny minority of owners to be a little more responsible.

Write your comments here...Great article unfortunately I am not sure it's a "tiny minority" seems the number of inconsiderate owners is growing.  My dogs were on a lead the other day and a big Ridgeback came up.  Owner assured me she was fine but she attacked my Labrador!  No physical harm done but it's not the first time she has been attacked recently and it's making her quite growly when other dogs approach.

Fair point, well-made. Same could be said of some kids. I keep my dogs under close control, but some kids think it's ok to run up to your dogs and pet them without asking if they are friendly first! We had one little boy persistantly kick his ball at one of my collies, on a beach, to get the required reaction of my dog going potty for the ball! I told the little darling that the dog would puncture it, but when he engaged him in a game of catch, and burst it, my husband gave the upset lad the money for the ball! I was incensed!

always makes me chuckle when folk think it would be a jolly hoot to command my dog to sit, I have no idea what the point of having someone's dog sit for you is all about but there you go. Any my bitch looks at them with disgust and stands . Anyway she is a spaniel and as a traditionalist she doesn't "sit" she "hups"

oh and she doesn't lie down, roll over or shake a paw. I even had one person ask what tricks she can do, tricks !!!
