Dogs off lead

Quick question. I have read and respect the club rules on keeping dogs on lead on site., but if the site has a specific dog exercise area is it ok to let them chase a ball or have a good sniff around?

My 2 borderr Collies love being off lead in new places.

Ian.

"the area such as the one at M in the M then I would say it's ok to let your dog off lead ,but where they are just a narrow path then keep it on a lead "

Yes, that was exactly the point I meant in the 4 examples of sites I gave in my first post.

Thanks for the clarification, jeff. I was pretty sure that was the case. Happy

The rule states that you should keep your dog on a lead at all times -- Except in designated dog walk areas " Where free roaming is permitted".

Nowhere does it say that dogs can be let off the lead in all CC campsite dog walks.

The individual site warden is the person to ask before ever allowing your dog off the lead on any part of a CC campsite.

If in doubt always use a lead.

Cool

All explained here,  You can let them off, quite surpised at the responce from some on here? Seems people and their dogs are being judged by people who know nothing about them ?

Can't seem to get a direct link in the post so you will need to copy and paste it.

Thanks MiloHappy. Succinct & sharp post. Nice oneCool

Classic example of a poor Club Site dog walk area ( not a criticism of Club, it may be the only area within their ownership) is at Durham Grange. A scrubby nasty little tree lined path of around 100 metres, runs behind some of pitches at far side of site. Everyone has to walk up and then back along this narrow footpath. It is ok for a quick wee and possibly a desperate poo if your dog will go while on the lead, but is only slight exercise even for a chihuahua! We would only let ours off lead on this walk if no one else was around or using it, because dogs will meet each other, and some dogs (and owners) are nervous of other dogs. This is us showing respect for others. Luckily, just outside the Club Site is a footpath that leads eventually down to the river, fenced off safely from busy roads. So we use this and let ours off to let off a bit of steam and do what they need to do. Picking up of course. Dog walks on Club Sites vary from excellent to none existent, we always check before we book any site.

This is a post which should have gone in the UK Sites and Touring Section within the Caravanning with Dogs thread.

Unfortunately, we don't have the facility to merge a single post to another thread so I'll close this one.

Hi everyone,

Just had a response from Sites Operations on this; If the dog walk area is fenced off around the perimeter of the area, then this is classed as a designated free roaming area, where dogs can be let off the lead.

Hope this answers your questions
