Ford V8 Pilot 2 Door Coupe

I thought that I had seen most cars in my long motoring life, but a couple of days ago I saw a car that I do not recall ever seeing before.

It was a Ford V8 Pilot Coupe.  From the front it was easily identifiable as a Ford V8 Pilot of the 1950's era. But this was an open topped 2 door Coupe!

Never seen such a beast before. It appeared to be as originally built, i.e not a conversion and was in great condition apart from missing engine side covers on both sides. The V8 engine was fully visible and did not appear to have been altered in any way.

I took several pictures on my mobile phone but of course have no way of attaching them to this thread.  Have sent copies to V9 but unsure if he is around at the moment.

My question is this:-  Has anyone ever heard or seen of such a beast before?  Obviously there are details of the V8 sedan and the Shooting Break, a pick up truck, but no where are there details of the Coupe.  The obvious thought must be that it was a conversion, but the quality of the bodywork suggests otherwise!

To any mods. Somehow I got the title a bit wrong. It should read V8 Pilot 2 Door Coupe.  Not  V8 Pilot 2 Coupe!

I don't think I can ammend title without your help!

New one on me, i, like you well remember the Ford V8 pilot . Always black i think.

A pal of mine bought one second hand in about 1959 , it was a Darkish  Red. Think it was the original paintwork. He had lots of problems with it ...it had hydraulic jacks fitted as I remember, but still an fantastic car . Another friends dad had a black one which I drove once , I was about to drop a gear for a roundabout and my friend said " no need to change gear in this car " so I bobbed it back into top and drove for about another 30 mls without touching the gear stick ( what  power) think it only had 3 forward gears .
